View Full Version : Begging for lyrical help!
Hello all,
like I wrote in the newbie section, I am an English major in Turku University and I'm begging for your help:
Where could I find at least somewhat reliable transcriptions of CT songs? The song I'm looking for in particular is Pink, Orange, Red. I am writing an essay on sound symbolism and I am hoping to study one or two Cocteau Twins' songs also from that point of view.
Thank you for your time, and if you had any hint for me, I'd be eternally grateful. (or at least for quite a respectable length of time)
Your Freya
There are many people who know a lot more about this subject than i do, but have you been to www.cocteautwins.org and selected the icon/image at the top? Once in, you should find a dedicated area on lyrics, which contains as much information on Cocteau Twins lyrics as is presently known.
Also, you could try a search for lyrics within this forum, using the Search option in the top menu bar. There have been many discussions on this subject as you can probably imagine.
As i said though, there are others who are better placed to answer this. Its a bit quiet here just now, but they'll be along later.

The only person who could tell you for sure is Liz Fraser! There are no reliable transcriptions, just various guesses.

Freya, quite a few of us share your linguistic curiosity, Liz's mouth music tends to draw people who are fascinated with language. Lyrical interpretations of that song vary quite a bit, it might be profitable to investigate them thoroughly.

Sure they do, but everything in Google is not exactly accurate, you know... ;)
Millions of thank yous for your help! They've already made quite an impact on my essay.
The lyrics Marcus posted, where are they taken from? Or are they generally accepted as the most reliable interpretation? (As based on the knowledge concerning butterflies?)
Millions of questions... :digi:
I don't think anything is really accepted as a reliable interpretation. To me that's one of the beauties of them - they can be anything to everybody :)

Yes, thank you, I had it printed out some time ago for Sebastian-he was fascinated with it because it had to do with butterflies and wanted to be able to sing along. He knows the words better than I do! ;)

i'm sure that you can find loads of lyrical interpretations if you do a search on google....you can also read the numerous threads in this forum about the subject. others here have already offered you external links as well, there are some good sites out there but be weary of those not dedicated solely to cocteau twins as their interpretations tend to be very suspect.

And don't take the liner notes of Japanese issues as gospel.
And don't take the liner notes of Japanese issues as gospel.
Especially as later releases contained a note from the band stating that the lyrics that had been issued were incorrect and had no official basis.
