so here's the question...i know we've talked about this before...but where were you when you heard cocteau twins playing and you were taken completely and pleasantly by surprise?
i think my most surprising experience was walking into a shabby chic store in Whittier California...you know all white and cream and frilly with soaps wreaking of overscented florals...and this woman was behind the counter...probably 65...trying to look 40...dressed to perfection in a long flowing black dress, coifed grey hair with way too much hairspray...
and Serpentskirt was blaring over the stereo system...of course i approached her and asked her about it...she rattled with excitement " I LOVE COCTEAU TWINS....MILK AND KISSES IS MY FAVORITE ALBUM NOW...BEFORE IT WAS HEAVEN OR LAS VEGAS"
::eek: WOW!

they're called 'cougars' - a rare and thankfully dying breed.
i heard cocteaus while lying in the dentist chair - worst bit? i couldn't say anything cos i had fingers and tools in my mouth! (ok, i know what you're thinking - but try and avoid it) :D

Lying in the bath on a Sunday night listening to Annie Nightingale on Radio 1, she played something of the first EP I think... at the wrong speed.
It still sounded fantastic even before she played it again at 45rpm.
:D
This was mid '80's, damn i'm old.
:o :rolleyes:

Jan 1st, 1985, about 1030 a.m. - watching a VHS tape (which I still have) of the New Year's Eve 3 hour special of "The Old Grey Whistle Test". I'd set the tape to record and gone to bed early (very rock 'n' roll).
"Pearly Dew Drops Drops" live.....SOLD to the ugly, bald bastard with the lack of confidence and an inferiority complex!!

hmm, sounds like leesa was 'taken completely and pleasantly by surprise' by her dentist... :eek:
the only relevant moments i can think of are: once in a shop (but they were playing a whole album, not just one song in a mist of muzak)... and the time when i heard john peel play the session tracks from treasure (now on bbc sessions, disc 2, tracks 4 - 7). not a surprise as such cos i knew he was gonna be playing some stuff, but still great cos it was the first time i'd heard those songs. magical!

Well, the first time I had ever heard Cocteau Twins was on VH1! That was a surprise in itself! I've never seen them on that channel since. And remember, this was somewhere around '84-'86. I too, am old. I can't even remember the year I first heard them! :p
The other time was at a Denny's! :eek:
where have I had the pleasant surprise of hearing CT, no where...I've never had that pleasant surprise :(
