so, what is your honest opinion?
do you think cocteau twins will ever get back together and create music again?
do you think they'll be washed up or more ready than ever to produce music?

Never say never -- but I am extremely doubtful....that said....something good must have happened between the three of them to have been attempted Coachella despite the fiasco.
I expect some healing and a lot of time. Simon's comments suggested LOTS of healing needed. If something good would occur -- I would hope for a studio encounter before them attemtping any sort of public venue.
I dont think they will ever get back together to be honest. I am quite happy that they have left such a beautiful body of work which largely stands the test of time and still has the power to lift me in so many ways. I think once bands dissolve and fall apart anyway, then it really would be a backward step for all the musicians to get back together purely for the sake of nostalgia or give in to the temptation of a large wad of cash for the reunion.
No, I don't think they will ever get back together again. If chances were slim even before the Coachella thing, they are nowhere in the realm of reality now.

One thing I've always wondered about is what sort of contact Liz and Robin have in general. I imagine that they must be in contact in some way since they share a child together?? I don't know how old their child is now, but if she's under 18 I would imagine it would be a bit more than "how's your Mom doing?".
I don't mean to get too personal here, I've just always wondered if Liz and Robin talk on a semi-regular basis because, if nothing else, they're parents together.

i thrive on what could be and not what truly is.
That said, yes, I think they will get together briefly, make a song or two and disappear back into the shadows.
I get so sad when a very wonderful group doesnt get along/things dont work out.
then again, its probably a mixed blessing in disguise.
the magic tends to dissipate and the music turns to crap in the later years.
Not in ALL cases, but most from what Ive heard.

I do expect to get flamed for this, but here's my honest take on it:
I hope they don't.
Why? Because Four Calendar Cafe was the beginning of a progression toward a more conventional music style (still can't stomach the alt-country stylings of Bluebeard), and moreover, Liz, in taking control of her emotional health, stopped singing magically (abstract) and started singing confessionally (therapy-babble). I know plenty of people love this, but I do not.
Earlier records allowed my spirit to soar wherever it wanted to because there was no explicit meaning carried in the vocals or the music. On the other hand, "are you the right man for me?" with the idiomatically American country/western sounding guitar riffs, kinda nails one's feet to the floor, because there is no room for interpretation. We are stuck being a fly on the wall in Liz's talk therapy session, somewhere in Texas, evidently.
It's much the same line of argument as Robin Guthrie's explanation as to why CTs videos were always basically boring performance films: he didn't want to impose their (or a filmmaker's) interpretation of the music onto the listeners/viewers. Stuff like "Rilkean Heart", though not an ugly piece of music by any means, interprets its own meaning for you and leaves you nowhere else to go with it.
Anyway, to bring it back to the original question:
If they reformed, I fully expect that they would pick up more or less where they left off, at least where Liz is concerned. I don't see here ever going back to singing abstract like in the old days. The magic has gone and there's no bringing it back, and I've made my peace with that.
Final blahblahblah: I don't need to resurrect the dead. CT has built a formidable body of excellent art that stands strongly on its own merit. The ex-members are all happily doing other things now. We have all moved on (well, most of us, anyway).
I'm HERE because of the friends I've made, not because I have some deep residual hope that the band will someday reform.
Hope I didn't upset anybody. Peoples' bein' so dag sensitive lately!

i told my brother his band needs to stop singing in words but i don't think they're going to do it
It'll never, ever happen. not in one hundred years. nunca.
Yes, there will be CT reunion: from www.robinguthrie.net, posted April 16, 2006:
"I'm nipping back to Seattle to do a very special one off performance which I'll post here about once it's been confirmed...."

I would like to see them get back together. Make the music I believe only the 3 of them can produce. There is something magical when they get together.
I know Andy, you like their older sound, but I enjoy the magic of their later music as well. Though each one took me awhile to listen to it, I can't NOT listen to it now. I love their later music as well as their earlier music. I'm glad they don't sound the same. How boring is that? :D
So I wish them well and if they do play together again, I will buy it, listen to it with child-like joy.
Now do I believe they will get back together? I really doubt it. But never is a long time, and in any given moment, we are not the same as the previous moment.

Any reunion attempt is contingent upon Liz and her winning the battle over the demons that haunt her, a subject that would be improper for me to conjecture upon any further.
Admittedly, the likelihood of a reunion decreases everyday, which saddens me mainly in that I never had a chance to see them live.

I wouldn't mind if they got back together, but I'm not waiting around for it. The Coachella thing was so shocking and unexpected that it makes me not have any idea what's going to happen, and as I have very little idea of the quality of Liz's recent work, I'm fine with that for now.

I think Leesa could anwer that, I remeber mentioning hearing a few snippets.
I might be wrong.

I think they will get back together but not create new music. If I were a billionaire I would offer each a million to preform together.
Liz doesn't even have a solo album yet, so I don't think she will even think of recording with CT.
By now they could have three albums out right after Milk & Kisses. crying

Wow, never thought of that. Well at least Robin has been very prolific and his solo stuff has been exceptionally beautiful.

I'm with you on this. As much as I'd like to feel enthused again (as I had been between 1983 and 1986), I don't think this could happen again.
I actually began to loose interest in their music with HOLV (my least favourite album).
Furthermore, I must admit Imperial by Robin, Mysterious Skin RG/Harold Budd, or Teardrop & Black Milk, by Liz and Massive, have thrilled me more than anything from FCC or M&K.

It's not all twangy, but I can understand.
I was a late CT bloomer with Victorialand being the first I heard when it came out. Then BBK was simply amazing, but different from V. It took me a few listens to really get the feel for it. The same with FCC. And then M&K. It took many listenings to truly enjoy them.
I don't know where I was going with this... lol

I do not agree at all. Last year I saw Dead Can Dance in Dublin - their first concert after reforming. They were as good as ever and they performed some great new material - I shall never forget the experience. So it can happen and the result can be worthwhile.
So I think they could still create great stuff if they reformed. They are a classic case - as with so many great bands - of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts.
Unfortunately, I doubt it will ever happen, but then I never thought I would ever get to see DCD live. Rarely have I wished so much to be proven wrong.

I thought M&K was an improvement too, though. There were awesome B-sides. Could a new album have contained songs like Flock of soul, Alice, Touch Upon Touch or Primitive Heart, I would have gained trust again.
Now, that's all gone.
This is never going to happen, nor should it.

uhm, excuse me, did you say "reformed"?? was that a "just for kicks" kind of tour or are they still playing?!?!? i am "one of those" fans who is obsessed with dcd and ct just as much, but i never really understood the dcd situation so if you can update me pretty please??? :baby: :baby: :baby:

to be honest though, i gotta say just because CT were to reform and make studio album, I have a feeling it's going to stir most fans away.. does that make sense? like yes i'd love them to still be around but i feel like their body of work cannot be more complete than it actually is...

Me too. FCC initially disappointed, but have since grown to love its sweet sadness and melancholia. Granted, it is no Heaven or Las Vegas, but FCC stands on its own as the crash and come-down (figuratively and literally) after the high that was HOLV.

They split in '98 but reformed in '95 and did a concert tour of Europe then of the US and Canada later in the year so I think you just missed them - sorry.
There was a significant amount of new material in the concert programmes so I think reformed is the appropriate word. Certainly 4AD want us to use the present tense - http://www.4ad.com/deadcandance/
One really great thing about the recent concerts was that each one was recorded live on multitrack digital and then CD's mastered of each show so you could buy a stunning souvenir of the concert you attended. The sound quality of these CD's is outstanding and worth every €
There are also 'best of' CD's of selected performances during the tour. You can still get some of the CD's here http://www.dcddiscs.com/

Turning down Coachella and now the box set release may hammer out yet another recording. Live performance? Damned if they don't. So, in my opinion, they're one of the most damned bands.

I saw DCD at the Hollywood Bowl last year and it was absolutely amazing. They had the Los Angeles Philharmonic backing them up which made it all the more epic and grand.
