An interview with Robin Guthrie appeared Friday June 2 in local press in York, as a preview to his performance here Monday 5th June.

I found it online so posting link for all interested (added it in the thread re: Metro interview also, hope this is ok).

Pretty severe words about Liz, looks like a long way back now!

Pretty accurate though!

I suddenly feel vindicated in my criticism of LF.

Cheers, Robin.

So, who would boycott if she ever got round to some solo appearances?

Why would we want to do that? Our criticism is based almost entirely on impatience to hear more!

Not entirely, Dave...my criticism also is based on a suspicion that she's lost it. I said in another thread that I don't care now if an LF album ever comes out.

I was just thinking how I feel must be like a mothers love for an errant child. Think I could forgive almost anything and still want to hear from her.

I have to admit to being pretty "shocked" when I read that part of the interview, unless the interviewer just caught Robin on a particularly rough day?

"I get irritated when my work is invalidated because it doesn't have that Cocteau Twins name, that singer, that label, that artwork. I can't live with that. I still write the same way; I've heard my music and I know it's good, but all the reviews keep giving more space to Liz than me, and what has she done for years but sit around?"

He's got a very valid point. I always wince a little inwardly when I read those kinds of criticisms of RGs work. That must really suck.

Criticism, Schmiticism! Its the Reveiwers who have the problem, not Robin, that is reviewers who constantly use the phrase "Robin Guthrie, ex-Cocteau Twins guitarist" as if they are expecting everything Robin creates to sound like "Cocteau Twins" and are incapable of accepting that musicians/artists evolve over time.

It's easy for us to say, "ignore it, Robin" but perhaps knowing that a group of listeners do indeed feel his music is "valid" and "worth listening to" will help to "ease the pain"?

How would you feel if everything you did in your current job was viewed in relation to the job you had 15 years ago!

What makes you think it isn't???

I don't deny that it may be for some people, but I would think they'd be a minority these days.

I think it's appropriate. Liz's solo album will be under the same scrutiny if she ever gets it out there. And, If she agrees to be interviewed, I'm sure there will be plenty of CT questions pitched at her.

Yeah, and imagine if everything you did in your current job was compared to your previous work with the boyfriend/girlfriend you hooked up with when you were 18! Yikes.

I'm sure Robin understands. He realizes how good CT were.

Yes, I'm sure he does, but as an artist it must be frustrating that you do an interview to promote your new product and all they want to talk about is something you did in a previous life.

Yes, that probably is frustrating. Too bad.

"servere"?
I didn't think any of it was severe. He wasn't bashing her, just stating from his perspective related to his music.

Hell, Robin is out there doing it... and I love that he is.
