View Full Version : Music while you work .... ?
Following on from a thread started by Mike_MHG which CT album do you like to listen while "doing the chores"?
and are certain albums/tracks better suited to certain bits of housework or other activites??
note to forumites: perhaps we can avoid postings such as "Garlands is great to listen to while having a dump!"??
thanks
as stated in the other thread, I love to play Moon & the melodies while ironing (as do others here) makes the task pass so much quicker.
Also recently, I've been playing the "Lullaby to Violaine" volumes while sat in the "den" reading ....

In my last term at university, I wrote 8 essays in 14 hours (the day before course deadline), only taking a break to turn over the record of The Moon and The Melodies, or change it for Filigree & Shadow.
Nowadays I find either 'Neroli' by Eno or 'Morte Aux Vaches' by Zoviet:France very condusive to work or thought.
No ironing here.
I don't really like to use CT for background music, I want to give it my full attention. That said I often put it on while cycling to and from work.

I listen to my radio when I'm on the move as I don't own an I-pod and my walkman is bust.

Why should you have? You made suggestion to stay away from such remark.
"Bad, Baddy, really bad, bad, Baddy!"
my mind is frazzled!!! I didn't even recognise the fact that Ms Badd had used the same words as I'd posted originally!!!

Be careful that your holiday doesn't become manic and take over your entire life...
Like Ghosty said, I can't use CT for background music, mostly because if I put them on while I'm doing my chores, I'll never get my chores done. I'll put the mop or dishtowel down, go sit on my couch and just bliss out. I usually put on something like Chemical Bros or Fluke when I'm doing housework; something with a beat to keep me going. Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall" works well in this capacity, too ("don't stop 'til you get enough"). I've also found early Gallon Drunk works wonders while doing the dishes, a chore I absolutely hate to do. James Johnston's bitter grunt'n'growl vocals on those early Drunk cds seems to fit my mood just perfectly.

At home, at office. I wish there was a way to have it in my car.
I definitely use something like Fugazi when doing housework. I can normally clean the whole house in about an hour when doing it that way!

I suppose Music While You Work has different connotations if you work in a record store. I always dreamed of working in a little indie shop and inflicting my fantastic taste on customers while the boss is at lunch.
Well, (cue evil laugh) I am the boss. But I try, for the most part, to make sure what we are playing is approachable. There are times that I wanna play what I wanna play and I do.
Having worked record store retail all through college, we retail peons never got that opportunity unless it was after 10 pm. Because it was a "family oriented" record store, we couldn't play anything too 'loud' until the later hours. This included Catherine Wheel, who I loved. I was so stoked I finally got the 'cool' manager to add Ferment to the record store playlist, but we were never allowed to put it on until after 10 pm.

I thought so, and I hoped so.
Occasionally I work in a charity shop, where the only perk is that you're allowed to play your own music, and I try to compile Minidiscs of stuff that will make people linger.
