Following on from what's your top ten CT songs, what are your bottom 5?
Mine would be:
1) Otterly
2) The Hollow Men
3) Beatrix
4) My Truth
5) Tinderbox (Of A Heart)
That was so much harder than the top 5!

thanks, i'd forgotten how deadly dull evangeline is - delicately beautiful, my arse!
While they haven't done anything I simply can't stand (I don't have M&K and am unfamiliar with the material, but already many of my favorite tracks appear to be among the ones most disliked), I think the following could be better:
1. Bluebeard
2. My Truth
3. Theft & Wandering Around Lost
4. Wolf In the Breast
5. Persephone (if only for the last four bars)
kookaburra

1. Feet-like Fins (otherness)
2. Seekers who are Lovers (otherness)
3. Golden-Vein
4. Alice
5. Serpentskirt
Funny how this era supplied us with some of the best (Seekers, Circling Girl) and the worst (see above) of CT. Should it have somehow been an indication of the coming end?

does not compute.
what do you mean "you don't have it"?!
ok so it's not one of my favourite albums overall but there are still some good songs on it. either way you still need to have it! :)
.......rumour has it that a small bag of robin guthrie's old kleenex from a head cold he had in september of eighty-six is up for sale with a complimentary copy of milk and kisses on ebay.
looks to fetch a tidy sum.....;)

A four way tie with the FCC b-sides and then My Truth.
I would list Otherness but I don't consider it a Cocteau Twins release. Ugh, Seefeel...

Let's see... the tracks I tend to skip tend to be ones that just bore me - I can't think of any cocteau songs that I actively hate - you know, like "Nelly & Kelly" hate...vomitsm
It's all but an ark lark (zzzzzz...)
Golden vein (lovely singing, but too precious for my taste, I guess)
Circling girl (ponderous)
Otterley (though if in the right mood I can get into it)
Iceblink Luck (I really don't know why - it just doesn't give me that tingly feeling - though the video is pretty :) )

Here's a thought - have any of you ever initially disliked (or just been indifferent to) a CT song that eventually you grew to really like? (not just tolerate)
I can think of a few for myself...
Evangeline
Persephone
Glass Candle Grenades (well, maybe "really like" is too strong for that one)
Wax and Wane
I wear your ring

Feet Like Fins - Otherness
When Mama Was Moth
Donimo
Evangeline
Seekers Who Are Lovers - Otherness
Feel guilty now, sorry songs!

If any1 dares put seekers who are lovers live on here...your dead meat!
Worst ones only selected from their 4AD years.... because I won't never really listen to their post 4AD stuff, so I don't know them well enough...
1. Sugar Hiccup
2. From The Flagstones
3. Ivo
4. Heaven Or Las Vegas
5. Pearly Dewdrops' Drops

1 - Seekers who are lovers - they shouldve left treasure hiding as the finale to m&k - for some reason when i hear SWAL all i think about is the music for the original star trek with the woman wailing in the background.
2 - Sugar Hiccup - this song suffocates in its own sweetness, more so the sunburst and snowblind version with its added lala lala's.
3 - Rilkean Heart/Half Gifts - both just plain tedious in whatever versions theyve been presented in.
4 - Pink Orange Red - i cant see the attraction in this song, sure its quite ornate but really quite dull, apart from the "hoffomanofilla" type rappy thing at the end.
5 - Sigh's Smell of Farewell - tucked away on a bside and rightly so. Usually the bsides are blinders but this was dismal, especially when held up against those eyes, that mouth and orange appled.Suffers from what is call the sugar hiccup syndrome where the song seems suffocated by its sweetness

here here! it's by far my least favourite ct song. i HATE it.
others i really don't like much:
road, river and rail
the m&k version of half-gifts (the other versions of this song are bearable)
violaine kinda irritates me too
i just realised that i don't like as many songs on treasure as i originally thought

Treasure is not my fave either. I always harken back to what Robin said about how they were being forced into all this pretentious faux-pre-Raphaelite arty bullshit at the time. I forget the exact quote but it's on the history on the "official" site... :)
Oh, I think Treasure is very pretentious. A few tracks I like (Beatrix & Otterley especially), but the whole album is just too much for me.

Yeah, dug up the quote (http://www.cocteautwins.com/html/history/history06.html):
"Robin offers, "...I've always detested Treasure. Not because of the record, but because of the vibe at the time, when we were pushed into all that kind of arty-farty pre-Raphaellite bullshit. And so I was just really ashamed of that record." [Lime Lizard Magazine, 1993]."
It's funny, cuz Treasure used to be my favorite when I first heard it soon after it originally came out, but I find it hasn't aged as well as some of the ctblue other material. I still enjoy it, but it doesn't quite scale the heights of "Victorialand", "Head Over Heels", and "Garlands" in my personal pantheon of the Twins' greatest works.
