I think this poll just goes to show that despite fans of CT being all 'indie' or 'avant garde' and the fact that CT were never 'mainstream' or 'pop', the clear fave is Carolyn's Fingers---a fantastic, as-pop-like as you'll get, bone throbbing tune. Can you tell I like it too?

But, as I and others have said before, it's hard to choose, and it changes from time to time.

Excellent way of putting it:nod:
rRob,does your reply mean that you'd rather electrocute your bollocks than agree with the consensus, or do I have it wrong, in that the song makes you undress and flip gymnastically over live cables?

that song makes me think of children & magical penis unicorns dancing around with Julie Andrews in Bavaria...
never cared for it much. Too cheery.

From my very first post here:

... I'll never forget the first time I felt Carolyn's Fingers on my ears.

Goosebumps

Goosebumps for sure!

Carolyn's Fingers is a song that demands to be listened to in the purest sense of the term, not listened to when you're getting ready for work or listening to while you're washing the car, listened to and that's it.

Yes yes yes, so much of my time I used to spend actually listening to music, not having it on in the background, but nowadays, I find I put something on, then walk into another room to do something else, and then I've missed it!

I love listening to stuff loud, and in the dark, gently turning in my swivel chair ()

Slouching back into a comfortable couch, I lean my head back, close my eyes, and let the music take over all that's left of my senses. I remember when most of my listening was to vinyl. How hard it was to peel myself off the furniture every twenty minutes when all that was left coming out of my speakers was thump-pop, crackle crackle, thump-pop...

No votes for KWYAAEA? I demand a recount

I also find this incredibly strange.

It's in my top 3 but I didn't vote for it.

Lots of other people have probably said this, but my favorites change often. I don't know that I actually have a single favorite album, let alone song. There have been times when KWYAAEA was at the top, then times when Dear Heart was #1. If I were to vote again today, it would be something off Victorialand. That's what I've been listening to often these days.

CT's recording ouput was so strong and consistent that you can only really choose your favourite song of the moment, it feels almost blasphemous to do otherwise.

Anbody who doesn't vote for Pur is quite simply wrong.

You are SO right
IMHO:
2nd- Another Day (altho not CT)
3rd- Know Who You...
4th- Crushed
5th- Eggs..Shells
6th- Feather-Oar-Blades
7th- Rilkean

That'll do or I'll be here all night

No votes for Ribbed & Veined and An Elan? Those are so underrated... I don't get why so many votes for Pur. Essence is much better in my opinion.

I went with Musette and Drums simply because the guitar part at the end is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

Today, it's Tishbite.

Haven't heard this in so long, it's like hearing it for the first time and it's AMAZING!!!!!

(On the Tangerine Dream forum, this would be known as a Jouxson Moment, named after a poster called Colin Jouxson who occasionally just exploded with joy all over the message board. Haven't been there in a while, mind)

and by the way, does anyone else think the remastered version of Seekers is off the chain??? Her voice is so clear in that version (although there are still some mystery words lurking in there). Totally another fave!

when funds allow, I must get some re-masters of BBK, HOLV, etc......I'd love to hear them on vinyl on a good sound system:heart:

btw, where would I find the track 'void of voice'? I know it's on a bootleg called 'unrealised dreams' but it seems hard to find.......?

edward
May-18-10, 8:40 PM
I could be wrong, but I seem to remember reading that Void of Voice is actually My Hue and Cry that was mislabeled on a bootleg. It makes a certain kind of sense that someone would call the track void of voice since it is an instrumental, but My Hue and Cry is much more Cocteau-sounding. I don't know if there are any studio versions floating around out there, but MHAC can be found on BBC Sessions.

So does the instrumental bootleg track played in 1986 actually have a name?

I'm shocked that Heaven Or Las Vegas is winning I would have picked that as the worst song on that album I always skip it when I'm listening.

To me that's one of the beauties of Cocteau Twins music. Look at the poll and see just how many tracks attracted a vote - there cannot be many other bands where such a high percentage of their tracks would be someone's favourite, especially when you consider the list includes album tracks and B sides of singles. Do the same with other bands and I'm sure the list of favourites would be much shorter.
