Oct-16-06, 4:07 AM
I'd like to try and create a definitive guide of all of the CT cover versions that have been made. It would serve as a great reference for collectors, fans and cover bands. (I will be creating a similar anthology to catalogue all remixes as well.)

I'm going to list all of the cover versions that I have a list of, please take a moment to check the main list in this post to see if there are any covers that are not listed. If that's the case then please list them. Try and provide as many details about the cover version as possible; for example: Cocteau Title, Cover Bands Name, Date, CD appearances and if possible a download link.

I will continually update the main list below based on your additions.

My covers of Pink Orange Red, Half-Gifts, and From the Flagstones can be found here:

I may rerecord them now that I have better equipment. I'll definitely need to rerecord Rilkean Heart before I post that again.

Hehe, when we (Livia) did the Dewdrops thing I wouldn't exactly call us 'signed'. I wonder when mmm will decide the list has gone small scale enough to stop.

I'm sure that I've seen Faye Wong in a few films too..

I'd completely forgotten that I have a master CD of all the un-used cover versions from the "Half-Gifts" tribute CD. The tracks are, however, not labeled and I'm not too familiar with other bands who cover Cocteaus music. I'm certainly willing to share these additional 10 tracks with you guys but I don't want to give you stuff that's already available, I'd like to make sure that these are not cover versions that are already circulating. So, I need someone who can (hopefully) identify the bands/songs for me.

If you think you can help please send me a PM.

This is one of the extra tracks that didn't make it onto the "Half-Gifts" tribute CD. I don't know the name of the band, just the title.

No, those are the tracks that were USED for the half-gifts CD - I've got the rest of the submissions that were left off the CD....so I have no idea who they are. Those are some of the unknown tracks I've been posting in Treasure Hiding.

that infomation doesn't matter.........................

No, what I mean is.........many bands submitted their cover versions to appear on the CD but only some of them were selected. There were then tracks that remained that were not published on the CD, and I have those tracks, so I'm trying to identify them.

Even though it is mentioned in the List of Cocteau Twins Cover Versions (http://www.cocteautwinsforums.com/showthread.php5?t=13032), this song is not actually a cover version at all.

There is indeed a song called "Liz Fraser" and it was recorded (in 1999) by a band named "zuecokimonomagnetico". Band member, Edmundo Veloso, composed and recorded the song which, according to Veloso, is a completely original song, not a Cocteau Twins cover song at all.

The song appears on their album "Gloom" (see album cover below), which you can find out more information about, as well as listen to every track on the album, just visit their Lastfm page:

Better late than never. You probably have these by now. If not:

Silphe: Blue Bell Knoll
Sprinklepinky: Whales Tails
Tatiana Simonian: Hitherto
The New York Room: Pearly Dewdrops'-Drops (3 mixes: glisten, gleam, glisten and gleam)
Siuberto Socarras: Mi Verdad (2 mixes)
Stare: In Our Angelhood
The Divine Mingle Mangle: Aikea-Guinea, Serpentskirt, Heaven Or Las Vegas
Thermal + Seofon: The Tinderbox (Of A Heart) [of them all, this is the one I regret most that we didn't put on the CD; I was out-voted]
Ashrae Fax: Summerblink
John West: Serpentskirt
Landing: Whales Tails
LoveHate: Oomingmak
Madisson: Frou-Frou Foxes In Midsummer Fires
SCSI: Love's Easy Tears
Shapiro Ensemble: Serpentskirt
Solomon's Seal: She Will Destroy You (2 mixes)
Supermarket: The Spangle Maker
The Fire Time: Musette and Drums
Tiger Team: Blue Bell Knoll (2 mixes)

I believe this is a complete list of those tracks that were submitted for the comp but not used. Even today, I still shudder about some of them.......

I hope this isn't the wrong place to post this (still learning this forum ;)), but Kahain have done quite an amazing cover of Wax and Wane (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Zuyv6ExJdg).

Also, Matt Gurley has covered HOLV amazingly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma3NzTdCuh0). Can't tell if he's backed it with coyrighted loops, or if he's done the backing himself (he says its him), but its one of the only cover versions of this song that doesn't make my stomach turn. Truly great stuff!

I have both of these in .mp3 formats from the artists (though they're on my desktop in my cabin), so thought it would fit fine in this thread. I'll try to dig up the .mp3s when i get back to my cabin and post them!
