for the non collectors in the group - you may or may not know that japanese releases strive to always have lyric inserts. imagine how difficult this is when it comes to cocteau twins releases. needless to say i've been sitting here comparing my vinyl editions of the four remastered cds and i made an interesting observation. i'm not sure how many of you have the japanese edition of garlands on vinyl but out of all the japanese cocteau twins lyric insert sheets this one takes the prize for being most ridiculous. i think the thing that cracks me up the most is that garlands is one of the few album sleeves on which liz has actually offered the lyrics up and they are printed directly on the outer sleeve. had the genius translator (Neal Cummings) cared to at least look at the sleeve he would have at least been able to use the lyrics provided as opposed to coming (Cumming?) up with his own diatribe of pure brilliant gooble-de-gok! one can only hope that Mr. Cummings didn't actually get an opportunity to see the sleeve prior to compiling his masterwork.

small things do indeed amuse small minds.

so let's take the title track garlands as an example.....

the sleeve reads:

garlands evergreen
forget me not wreaths
chaplets see me drugged
i could die in the rosary

and the lyric insert reads:

trying to sell a dream
forgetting your dream
travelling so long
i keep tieing a rosary
