certain tracks just don't "fit" on certain albums - you agree?
"summerhead", "theft & wandering around lost" and "squeeze-wax" don't belong on four calendar café. they are such holv songs! were they leftovers? what's the deal here?
"treasure hiding" and "seekers who are lovers" don't belong on milk & kisses instead tracks like "rilkean heart" and "calfskin smack" do?? i just don't get it.
i could think of loads more but it'll turn into a rant and that's not the purpose of my thread. i'm just curious to know if anyone else shares my view on misplaced tracks.

I definitely agree on "Calfskin Smack", but then I'm not sure it would fit on any album. It's really sort of an anomally in their ouevre...

"circling girl" on milk&kisses instead of "serpentskirt"?
"because of whirl-jack" on hoh instead of "multifoiled"?,
and sometimes wondered about track-order also.(different thread though) ;)
and mmmender, speaking of leftovers "fotzepolitic" sounds
like a leftover.(circa '86?):p

sugar hiccup is a bit odd on hoh.. or maybe the track sequence is? i'm never too excited to hear sugar hiccup after five ten fiftyfold..

i think sugar hiccup belongs to head over heels, but songs like five ten fiftyfold are so intensely brilliant that it's kind of hard to hear anything after them. i always felt like sugar hiccup was kind of a wierd pop song, almost! i like it, but it is nothing absolutely shockingly dazzling or anything. just kind of cute.

well allimart, that is probably a good way of putting it. i don't mind sugar hiccup as a song but i don't care much for it when listening to hoh as a whole..

sugar hiccup does seem like it's on a different level than the rest of the album, or something! different... motive, or something....

Nope, I like it. Doesn't really stand well on its own, but in the album sequence, it belongs and it adds.

It's funny, but I like "Serpentskirt". Very dark and moody. Oh well.
The only song I usually skip through on my iPod lately is "From the Flagstones", but that's not from an album.
"Otterley" is a big change from the tempo of Treasure, though I love the song.

There are very few songs I don't like.... well not so much don't like, more i is not really fussed on them, Calfskin Smack, Mizake the Mizan, Oil of Angels, Pepper Tree, Beatrix, Otherness(all)..... only but to name a few, like i said, i like them all, just not so fussed on those ones...
I like the albums the way they are.... would have liked the end of Victorialand to be more definative tho... 9 tracks just ain't enough... Sky to Speak should have been on there, then i would maybe get to hear it some day...
"Treasure Hiding" doesn't make any sense to me, it makes Milk & Kisses sound like it has one too many grandiose endings. Very odd placing for that track and "Seekers" right after it.

On 4CC, bluebeard/squeeze-wax/summerhead. It's the twangy guitar that changes the mood of the album.
*edit* although the album would not be complete somehow without it all.
One of the very small list of least favorites is Bluebeard though; I skip it a lot while listening to the album :-/
I love "Treasure Hiding" - very CT, even if it is just before "Seekers...". The only songs I feel have never belonged to a CT album are "Ups" and "Eperdu". They are just in the middle of M&K, to "fluff" it up? Every other song on every other album (even if I don't like them) makes a bit of sense apart from these 2, which I hate so much.

"ups" is actually one of my all-time favourite cocteau songs! i will agree that i don't think it belongs on m&k, it's more of a holv or 4cc song. i really do love that track and i think it gets lost on m&k. that being said i think that m&k is their weakest album, it's the one i listen to the least, i just think it's full of mediocre tracks.

Have you ever thought of revisiting this album? I know I have rediscovered an album by listening to it more. I've mentioned this before, but but every album post Victorialand I had to really LISTEN to, since their sound changed a little bit from album to album. I think M&K is just as strong as any other CT album.
Anymore, I try to keep an open mind without my "old" baggage getting in the way. That's true in my life and when listening to music.
I'm just curious if you feel you could approach M&K with a "fresh" eyes.

Duran Duran was wonderful to see in concert last year. I was 8th row. My friend also went to see them in Minneapolis and met the band in a private group (only 20 people) and gave Nick a copy of his demo CD as a "thank you" for being an inspiration.
The next day, the bands PR woman called him and put him in touch with a woman the band knows that he should contact to collaborate on a project.
I think that was very nice of Nick Rhodes and the band.
