Has anyone visited Lucy's Myspace? Go to www.myspace.com/lucybelleguthrie. She has a sampler of 4 cover songs, one being "Merry Christmas, War is Over". She has a sweet young girl singing voice. Looks just like her mamma!
Really? I think she looks more like her dad.

In the myspace pic she has her mom's profile. I read some of her q&a's and she seems pretty cool.

She's like Sid Barret... maybe someone should ask her on her myspace.

She is a member here (goes by "Lullaby") -- she was a fairly regular visitor for a little while back in the summer, mainly in Waxxx & Wane. :D I got the impression from some of the things she said that her parents would not be happy about her hanging out with us nuts, but that didn't seem to bother her much. (in other words, very normal and well-adjusted teenager!)

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!:lmao:
How old is she!?!?!
Is she old enough to look at the waxxx and wane forums? God Robin is going to be pissed when he finds out about that, but in all honestly if I joined here as a sixteen year old or whathaveyou, I would have been posting in the waxx and wane forums too. It just makes me laugh to think of all the grusome shit you guys post there, and imagine her viewing it while Robins on the shitter or something.

I think I remember Robin popping in to some thread she was posting in to throw out a funny comment or two (not in one of the waxxxy ones, though).

Yeah, i'm catching some of these posts now... one where she says her mum would kill her, and Robin probably knows already. Well thats all well and good, my son is just a baby, but I cant say that I;d be mad if he was interested in talking to the likes of us. People are interested in sex... period... cant make your kid feel like an ass for going on impulse.

Oh! I havent checked that out yet.
Lullaby is a sweetiepoo. She's a pretty talented photographer, too :)
And as a teen, boys arent the only ones with raging hormones! I remember being in jr high/high school and being very in tuned with that area. My shyness took me off the radar though, so I stuck to drawing at a quiet part of the campus.
Hormones are still ragin' at 24!!! ;)

Ok, picture the scene:
Four/five youths (no more than one of them old enough to shave), dressed in black with spiky or mop-head hair-cuts (dyed black, o' course).
Songs comprising of adolescent despair, most of which can be boiled down to "You used to shag me, but now you're shagging my mate and you're a bitch but I'd have you back or would I? Yes, I would, I think...I don't know I'm so confused - you're still a bitch and I may well slit my wrists but not enough to kill myself...just to make a point like, so you can visit me in hospital and stuff...and it won't hurt as much as when you broke my heart by shagging my mate", sung over lots of sevenths and power chords.

"Blood Bath" was the typo printed on the Garlands 4AD remaster (see picture below) instead of "Blood Bitch" which is the commonly known song title printed on every other issue of Garlands.
"As far as the [remasters] artwork and fuck-ups like that were concerned they may not have happened had we been sent proofs....For the record : the artwork, to me, seems cheap and tacky, the onbody artworks are illegible and I'm overall disappointed with the results."

I'm the same, I like at least one band/artist in every genre except R&B. For the past week or so I've been listening to a lot of Cibo Matto, Placebo, Hypnogaja, Evanescence, Panic! at the Disco, Jimmy Eat World, Billy Talent, Guns n' Roses, Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5, Tenacious D, that sort of thing, but I tend to like almost anything. I like quite a lot of Asian music too like Bulldog Mansion, Gackt, L'Arc-en-Ciel, etc.. The main genres I listen to though I would think are Rock, "Emo" and some Heavy Metal.
EDIT:
Also, I classify anyone who likes Crazy Frog as a retard. Little Bastard...
I wish I hadn't read your Edit.
Now I have that little freaks first song in my head...aghhhh.

Tenacious D, that sort of thing
how do others feel about "Tenacious D", perhaps its just my age, but I don't see it as serious music, neither do I see it as comedy.
In fact every time I hear any of it I just want to grab Mr. Black and head butt him!
perhaps I should just sit in this corner with this cardboard box flap on a string around my neck, on which I've handwritten the slogan "old before his time"??

Although I do love the song "Tribute", lyrics and all. :) I think it's a particular kind of music though, not a lot of people seem to know who they are.

Well I never really know what I want to be honest. I know mum's bought me a sewing machine coz I asked for one (I'll be needing it for college anyway), I asked my dad for a tripod and my stepdad for the Vans. Randombob: Yeah I like a couple of piercings, but there are some that are just plain ugly. That pic you posted doesn't do it for me, they have to be tasteful. I have a couple already, twice in both ears, my nose and my navel. I want 4 more.
By_the_sea: Yep, dad has several in both ears, his tongue and his nipples pierced actually. God he used to show my friends when they came over, the shame! :lmao:
Diane65: It's true, piercings are addictive. :) I have considered tattoos but I've been sketching down a few ideas and I come back to them every now and again to see if I like them. I'm only gonna get one done if I'm sure I'm still gonna like it in years to come, and it would probably be something small and discreet.
I'm taking art and design, so we basically experiment with loads of different things, I don't think we get to do photography until next year though, so I do it as a hobby by myself, these were the last ones I took:

wow ya know the hippy thing had it's moments. consider it a chrysalis then for what you have morphed into. there's nothing wrong with short-ish, low maint. hair and shoes after all, eh? you can always just go see like Widespread Panic or something if ya ever need a hippy "fix" :D by the way, speaking of "the way you are now," i just listened to your "My Bed Is My Castle" again for like the 10th time, and THIS time, it had the "C/T Effect" on me - an inexplicable kind of aesthetic/mystical ecstasy! you REALLY sound ANGELIC on that song... [and i just read an interview where one of the katts in Mahogany said he "definitely" wants you to sing with them some more on their next lp...]
Eh? What interview?

It's true, piercings are addictive. :) I have considered tattoos but I've been sketching down a few ideas and I come back to them every now and again to see if I like them. I'm only gonna get one done if I'm sure I'm still gonna like it in years to come, and it would probably be something small and discrete.
Yep,i think that you making the right decision of taking time and think very well what you want to tatoo, because later on you can regret of doing the tatoo.Once i was going to do one,and already have set the day to do it,i call the guy to tell that i was a bit late, and he said it wasn't in that saturday, fortunatelly i had one more week, and i thought a lot about it in that week, then i quit, nowadays i'm happy that i don't have done it.I think i've regreted now if i've done it.

Love the Buddha pic-where was it taken? Looks like you have a sweet camera! Don't you just love art school? Yeah, for sure design your own tattoo-I really like airbrushed, light colors, dainty ones-like one by the hip, just peeking out fom the top of your bikini bottom, or they look cute on a toe or top of the foot (tiny ones). But, then again, I would have too much anxiety about who will DO the actual tattoo-like what if the person was tired or pissed off at their girlfriend, or whatever....I'd have to go on one of those shows like Miami Ink or (what is the Las Vegas show?) just 'cos you know they wouldn't screw it up on TV. I always liked the vintage pin-ups for guys, like Varga girls... OMG My daughter would DIE if I flashed my nipple rings to her friends-LOL! (Not that I have any) I think nose and belly rings are totally femme and look cute on YOUNG girls. I hate to see these older chicks dressed in Juicy Couture and have belly rings with a fake tan and frosty lips-EWWW! (Think Magda in "There's Something About Mary") http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m123/DianeOctober/vargagirls1.jpg What is this fuss about singing on a record???

Pilgrimx: Yeah I probably won't get one for another year or two. A friend of mine who's 18 has a tattoo of the Pokemon Mew on his upper arm, I'm pretty sure he'll be sick of it in a couple years. And then there's my mum who got tattoos and then hated them and tried to get them lasered off. Not so fun, I'd rather wait.
Diane65: About the tattoos and piercings, ewwww for the picture of Magda, I hate fake tans, you'll never catch me doing that, I like my pale skin. Imho anyone can get a tan, not everyone can have nice white skin. :D As for all that make up bollocks, I can't be bothered with it. I almost never wear make up, and when I do it's only mascara and eyeliner. I have to admit that piercings just don't look good on some people, which is why I'm still hesitant on getting the 4 last ones that want; the top of my right ear, my right nipple and twice on the left of my botton lip (I think they're called spiderbites). I might be getting 1 of the ones in my lip next month, if I can afford it. :)
About the photos I took those 3 pictures in my back garden in France on the day that I was moving back to the UK :) I've taken a couple more actually within the last month:

I don't know about the double lip pierce......will the holes be big? You are wise to avoid the sun-I see sooo many fake 'n bake chicks (tanning bed users) and their skin is the color of a basketball. Take good care of your skin-drink lots of water, take vitamins and don't smoke-causes wrinkles! How much are piercings over there? The statue photos are really pretty-you could develop, frame, and give them as gifts-now that you are an art student people will expect it! I am fascinated with India, would love to go someday. A few friends went and hiked all around Nepal. They even bathed in the Ganges. Have you ever been?

Nah I wouldn't want the lip piercings too big, and they'd probably be just a bit bigger than the stud you get on a nose piercing. Here's a little photoshop doodle:
http://instantramen.co.uk/piercing-idea.jpg
It would be something like this, except it would be on the other side and the studs would probably be little spikes ^^ As for the prices, I'm not too sure, my other piercings were done in France.. About 50euros for my belly ring, 25euros for my nose. For both lip rings it'll probably cost £50-60.
Oh I hate those tanning salons, I don't quite see the benefit of having a bronze tan in the middle of winter, people say it's in preparation of summer. Now it may just be me, but I thought that people got tans during summer? As for taking care of myself, I don't smoke (well not cigarettes, and anything else is rare), don't tan, and I've actually been drinking nothing but water and green tea for the past week and a half and my god I've lost weight, that green tea really does speed up the old metabolism :omg:
Nope I've never been to India, one of the places I haven't been to actually, seeing as I used to tour with my parents most of the time. I was a very privaleged kid actually :) got to see many great places, my favourite is still by far Japan. :sigh: I wanna go back

DUH! I forgot your 'rents traveled so much! That piercing is cute-so is the Marilyn Monroe. I don't know the exact exchange rate but that seems pricey. I know beauty supply stores sell piercing guns over here-it might be cheaper just to do them yourself? (You could have your own "piercing parties" ha ha) Are doing a fasting by drinking the tea? Be careful with that-if you don't eat your body goes into starve mode and it will actually slow your matabolism down. Don't tell me you think you are fat? You look perfectly normal and healthy in your pics. The best way to keep fit is to eat healthy (vegetables, fruits, whole grains, etc.) and exercise regularly-just walking for 1/2 hour around you neighborhood with make a difference in how you feel. As females we have so much pressure to be thin-don't fall prey to that, ok? Plus, guys like a bit of booty!! I hear that from so many people how awesome Japan is-a couple of friends taught English over there-I guess they are crazy about blue eyes.. What is it about Japan you love? I think the fashion is sooo creative-Gwen Stefani got criticized for reinforcing ethnic stereotypes with her Harajuku girls. I didn't know how many styles there were (my daughter LOVES gwen) like Gothic Lolita, Gothic Maid, Wamono, Decora, Sex Kitten..Do you read FRUiTs magazine? Here is a link: www.fruits-mg.com. Did you get to spend much time over there?

Meh I don't like the Monroes/Madonnas at all... And I wouldn't dare trying to pierce myself, especially not the lip, too dangerous without a professional.
And I'm not fasting, what I mean is that I eat the same as I usually do, I just stopped drinking things like coke and PG Tips and started drinking only watre and green tea. I don't think I'm fat, I just would like to be a little slimmer than I am, but not in a maniacal "I'm not eating anything except this stick of celery coz I'm soooo obese" kind of way, I'm not like that at all. And since I don't excercise at all, it's probably a good think I do a lot of walking everyday going to and from college (the college is at least a good 15-20 mins walk from the station). As far as the female population goes with all it's skinny media and all that shit, I just stay away, I hate all forms of gossip magazines and all that crap, all it does is make normal women feel inferior.
Hehe I do love Japan, I've always loved it. I love the exotic-looking flowers and plants, I love the size of their summer fruits, I love their food, and above all I love their clothing! I don't read the "Fruits" magazine, but I do like it, I got their book for christmas :) I LOVE the EGL (Elegant Gothic Lolita) style, pretty much anything like that I love, it's very much like Alice in Wonderland, and of that I'm the biggest fan! :D

Glad to hear you have a healthy body image-so many of my daughter's friends don't...they all think they are fat and are like a size 4. I don't know what pg tips are? I do like the EGL, just not the headpieces-too grandma for me! Japanese clothing is the BEST-so elaborate! I do love sushi-except sea urchin-yuck! I always hope Im following the proper etiquette when eating it-like; easy on the wasabi, never drown your sushi in soy, etc... I took a history of Japan class and it was more difficult than I thought-so many dynasties to learn! Ohh Alice In Wonderland is such a classic book, especially the illustrations! Oscar Wilde and Queen Victoria were fans, too. Some of the older edition books can fetch upwards of $2,000.00 dollars. That hookah smokin' caterpillar always freaked me out! It was also banned in China in the 1930's because talking animals were considered blasphemous. Here are some online stores for EGL: Baby, stars shine so bright, Metamorphose, Delirium, Shadow Fae, and Candy Fruit. Hope you had a nice Christmas, too!

Hehe all piercings hurt at least a little bit :) this one hurt but not as much as my nose. It was really swollen for the first half hour after getting it done but then I could talk normally, it's still a little hard to eat (the flat disk inside sometimes hooks on my teeth) but it doesn't really hurt anymore.
My dad doesn't like facial piercings except maybe ears and nose, my stepdad hates all piercings, mum just looked at it and laughed and said "you have shrapnel in your face". :D
I'd never get 24k gold hoops, I hate gold jewelry especially ones with big diamonds and jewels in. I like just plain metals like steel or titanium (or silver at the very most). I was thinking about getting one of these when I get my 2nd hole so it can go through both at once!

I like facial piercing as long as it isn't over done. Then, I think people start to look as though they tripped and fell face-first into a tackle-box.

Don't get a grill...unless you want to advertise your stupidity. No kidding. What else would it say aobut you if not that?
Its the glorification of "gangsterism" which basically postulates that if you can't make it in life...try being a criminal by hanging out with a bunch of other untrustworthy thugs, or try looking like one. Until they decide to screw you too...or did you hear that they recently reinstated honor amoung thieves?
Its the neanderthal approach to try scaring or beating society into respect for you. Fear does not equal respect. Only the dumb would think so.
The status or money gangsters flaunt like grills is like a big advertisement for their bourgiouse aspirations which don't go any farther than wasting money on unecessary peacock feathers which don't help you fly. Hence, it consolidates the rich's hedgemony, not overturns it. And all that wasted money spent on flash or weapons instead of education...just more proof that only the dumb would waste their lifesavings trying to impress the eighth grade mentality of the people who live on their block.
While there may have been some honest social critique going on with some hip hop artit's music or lyrics, 98% of it is brain-dead mysogyny, brute and dull. Why associate yourself with the worst trash in society's garbage dump? Only if you admit that you can't make it in society does it somehow become "empowering" to tattoo "thug" on your belly and live just to piss off smart people or frighten those even dumber than you. And while society isn't perfect, I don't think you'll find hip-hop "chanters" (that's what it is...chanting) coming up with anything to replace it, just ideas on how we can all debase ourselves a little more with materialism and low class bravado.
And how ignorant does a person of african-descent have to be to not realize that the diamonds they wear were probably acquired from Africa where their brothers are being killed and exploited right and left?
they might as well get a tattoo on their forehead that reads "I like massa after all!"
A grill, in fact, does nothing than make you look like you are that evil nemesis in those James Bond movies at best, and at worst it just looks like you never brushed your teeth and had to have a whole lot of fillings or a bad set of braces. Disgusting. How do you eat? And who cleans all the saliva that buil
Meanwhile, only hip hop fans who think bling makes you somehow respectable are dumb enough to not realize that the thousands they spent on diamonds will in a few years be rendered worthless as man made diamonds (real diamonds but man-made under extreme heat and pressure) hit the market and drive down diamond prices.
On top of it the hours are bad and and you have to pluck your eyebrows too much.
In the end its just sad even more than it is dumb.
Some may read this and think there is some underlying jelousy or even racism or classism here. (If they can read at all). the answer to that is, no, I'm just trying to help people steer their way towards being educated about what they wear, who they are, what their actions mean, and how they represent themselves. Education, the saving grace...available to anyone with a library card. Spend your money on books, people, that's all I'm saying. Learn to read more than the word "cashmoney" spelled out in sequins on someone's tonsils, for god's sake.
Peace out.

Jan-8-07, 6:03 PM
Its putting a diamond encrusted retainer in your mouth, suposedly jewelry, so that your teeth look like the front of a car's grille.
I have a modified one...I just get a sharpie and write each digit of my bank account on my teeth one by one, so that if thugs want to rob me they can just "read my lips" and leave my body alone...saves time and pints of blood.

Yarr long quote, but thank you! I completely agree, most of the people in my class, nay, college are people into "bling" and all that polished, jewelled nonsense. I agree though with the fact that people who tend to be into "bling" are usually the kind of people who don't give a crap about their future or a good education, they're usually ignorant and close-minded and think they can breeze through life as a rapper or celebrity because of their "good looks and style".

so... grill, 'bad'... thumbtack thru side of cheek, ok....
k.
its not just hip-hop culture, its painful rites of passage for young people... nobody would bother doing it if there wasnt someone they admire(for whatever reason) saying yeah its cool and going thru the pain makes it a important experience. i jammed my thumb in a deli slicer once, it didnt make me a cool person... piercings/tattoos are just another way to become part of another club... some would say it emphasizes uniqueness, but i see it as conforming to that group. using your beautiful skin to canvas someone elses art. like a billboard.
my question: if you need decoration to appreciate your body, how much decoration will you need...?

Humans have tended towards needing rituals in their lives to give them significance. Read Becker's "Escape from Evil..." We all need something bigger to glom onto. In the past societies were closer knit and the rituals were much clearer, establishing the person as an adult instead of a child, and prepared them to take on those responsibilities...Native Americans and peyote rituals, for example, or getting Confirmed or married in a church, or the latino Qincenara... (don't know the spelling for that one...)
Now in their place we have the empty rituals created by consumerism and advertising...and though they don't have the maturity to grasp the real significance (that they are sheep being led to slaughter, trained like monkeys to keep swallowing product, and you can't "buy" your selfhood), they do understand that it signifys something, and confirms them as being "cool", which is code these days for attaining status in society (usually financial).
Again, it looks like rebellion but it actually affirms the status quo. "Cool" as a term came in in the 1950s, led by the "beat generation." They rejected middle class american bourgiouse value in search of truth and "kicks", basically a hedonism laced with eastern affectations. And while the progenitors such as Kerouac and Ginsburg had a real basis in reading and writing, the next generation took "hip" and "cool" to be a lifestyle that implied you were self-sustaining (i.e. didn't need to try to fit in with society at large), glamourous, and rebellious. Which can be boiled down to...look like you have enough money that you don't need to work hard in life. Or, as Billy Joel once put it..."can't dress trashy 'less you spend a lot of money." So it is essentially materialism.
Today's rituals are...lose your virginity and post it online, invent a bogus rite of passage involving pain in order to fit into a larger group to give you significance, scar yourself for their approval, try to stand out by dressing like a pin cushion or zombie, or affiliate yourself with a tribe.
And while the "tribe of rebellion against the norm" may hold some critique of plain vanilla societal mores (read, Christianity) note that the more you rebel the more you also help thus define and strengthen "the norm".
So what happens when you grow up and realize you don't need any tribe at all, and the tribe you joined before was taught to "obey" just as much as anyone else's tribe, and you aren't definied by the way you look or your taste in consumer products.
What happens? You grow up and put away the things of your naieve youth. That's called growing up. Takes time, especially if you take every detour.
