View Full Version : Which CT songs written primarily by Simon?
Always been curious. I can guess by the ones with a lot of piano/synth sounds, e.g., "Watchlar" but if Simon or anyone else in the know is reading this, which CT songs had the most input from dear Mr. Raymonde?
I'll guess one - 'Smile'
I defer to the real fanatics here, but I would guess his next one will be really sad (http://www.herb-bauer.com/~leesa/cocteautwins/vBulletin/full/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1365)

I don't believe it ever worked like that; weren't the songs co-operative "build-'em-up-from-vague-ideas-and-then-slam-vocals-and-production-on-the-top" affairs?

I think that much of the Victorialand era stuff was indeed constructed this way, and Robin has said as much in interviews. I'm guessing that later on, with material like "Four Calendar Cafe", a much more grounded approach of writing actual verse/chorus structures might have been employed.
Just as an aside, I think I prefer music borne out of the improvisational/experimental approach as a general rule of thumb, the spontanaeity of ideas flowing, etc.
What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in the studio and watch them build up one of those lush shimmering tracks from an inkling of an idea to the full monty.
Definitely would be interesting to hear Simon's thoughts on the multitracking/layering approach and general studio methodology, although that might be tantamount to giving away the "special sauce" recipe...
