View Full Version : If She
I haven't watched the Grammys this year, but it's been boring for a decade now.
1. But how would you feel if Elizabeth was nominated for either a Grammy or Oscar for best song? Then she'd be seen by millions.
2. Also how do you think the audience, with knowing of her reputation, will react and receive her voice wafting through the auditorium?
3. How do you think she would perform? Simple voice and guitar accompaniment; or full John Galliano ballgown (or wear a swan like Bjork) with lavish 50 piece orchestra and Howard Shore conducting?
I've never seen Liz live before so I'd love to imagine, and also almost hear the ovation at the end of it because it stopped the room.
4. Lastly, does she bow shyly?
I wish she would be on tv for millions to watch, or at least for us in Australia to watch.

I wouldnt want her to appear on t.v in front of millions, the magic would ultimately be lost and i dont think Liz would know what to do with herself on such a big stage in front of all those glaring eyes!

Probably with a resounding, unified shout of "Who is she?"

Probably from inside a box, whilst playing a Stylophone.
Lastly, does she bow shyly?
I can't comment, as I've never seen her play the violin.
Nice thread, with the fatal flaw of requiring Ms Fraser to actually record something to be recognised for at the Grammys. I think there's more chance of snogging the Pope.
I'd expect an ovation from our corner (the dark corner way in th nose-bleed seats), but the rest would find lots of people looking at each other going "what the hell was that???" Kind of like Bjork (and not just 'cos the dress).
And that's the way I'd want it. Our love and understanding of the Twins is too big, too deep to be widely felt.
Some people will never get it. . . .

In a Violet Indiana interview in the mag Under the Radar ,
Robin says :
" A lot of people felt alienated by the Cocteau Twins,
not so much with Violet Indiana . We have a more inclusive sound ".
I don' t think we' ll ever see Liz on such a stage , she 'd deserve the recognition though .

Personally, I think that the vocals of Liz Fraser are WAY beyond what the masses can understand, even if she ever did release a solo album, and even if she e-nun-ci-a-ted every word! I don't think that the general public could ever come to terms with Liz's music, beautiful as it may be. I mean, really! We've all experienced what happens when you try to introduce brilliant music to people who are content to listen to what their radio and video channel dictate! And I couldn't tell you HOW many people listen to CT for the first time, and just cannot get over the fact that they can't understand what Liz is saying. "I can't hear the words, dude!" "But what about the music?" "That makes me want to go to sleep, dude. It'd be better faster!"
:dunno:

actually i have been thinking this is a possible scenario for a few years now.
the oscars usually have the artists nominated for "best song" performing on the show.
and since most of what ef does now is soundtrack work...
well, it could happen.
lisa gerrard won something once, right? for gladiator?
it would have been cool to see her up there singing too...

is everyone worried about a curse :D ? like the curse of the best supporting actress oscar. after that your career slumps and b-grade material comes your way.
True, Liz could have won a major award, she was nominated for a BRIT once. And she did great work on TAKE ME WITH YOU, don't know why it wasn't noticed. And she's really famous for TEARDROP. If she had a big solo in Lord Of The Rings, she might get a BAFTA or OSCAR nomination. Hopefully she'll be on the 3rd soundtrack and get a big part.
i reckon if she got on the stage and millions watched her they'd rush out and buy her records. serious. i pick up alot of new music by watching tv, although have to wade through alot of MOR stuff.
i don't think i would like it very much if millions of people knew who Miss Fraser was because the general masses would not truly appreciate the ethereal quality and substance of her talent. It would be a waste. i didn't share Cocteau Twins with my husband until 2 years after we met. Luckily, he liked them, so i married him!;)

I'll agree with you there, bluezoe! If the man can't listen to Cocteau Twins, he's just not a man worth having! :D

And with that, Isadora swept from the ballroom, with the handsome prince left weeping in her wake.

oops!:o And here i was, thinking i was going to sound like a dedicated fan and what-not. i just read another thread where mmmember commented on that word and i thought, "They're all gonna laugh at you!!!" a la Carrie style. Let me say, i don't think the general masses would appreciate her euphorious and exquisite vocal talent. Am i forgiven?:)

You may use the "e" word whenever and wherever you wish. I would suggest, however, that you go back and edit your posts with the word "mmmember" in them!

No worries there, bluezoe! We're a pretty darn forgiving bunch. ;) You've gotta really intentionally try to piss people off in order to get into any real trouble here.
