My answers:

-1989 (Jan., I think)

-19 yrs. old

-Blue Bell Knoll single

-Was on a Top 40 radio station, during their late-night show where they play all the "weird" stuff they would *never* play during the day.

-Was in the back seat of my cousin's car, cruising around Houston on a Sat. night.

-Was with my cousin and some of her friends.

-Felt like I was hearing a voice from another world. Yet it was a voice that sounded so eerily familiar, as though I'd been waiting all my life to hear it. I felt an acute sense of urgency--I *had* to find out who that voice belonged to!

-I would never hear vocals, esp. female vocals, the same way again. The CT provided the soundtrack for the next several years of my life, with the vocals taking on various meanings according to what I was going through at the time. And of course I became obsessed with collecting all their recordings, first on cassette, then CD, then vinyl, then CD-R bootlegs, MP3's.... --Alan

The only thing i can say about the poll was i first heard them back in about '86. I was at a house party and someone had some music videos on tape. Being really high i can't remember what songs they were, but I do remember Liz's eyes seemed larger than normal...i was mesmerized...almost scared.

I think I was first exposed when I picked up a CT CD at a Half-Price Books store about 8-10 years ago and bought it (Heaven or Las Vegas). The first song off the CD that really grabbed me was 'Cherry-Colored Funk' and I knew I was on to something not of the standard fare. Another excellent group I found the same way was Shamen (their Boss Drum CD).

Well Im convinced that I (with maybe 400-500 0thers) saw the Twins at a music fest in Grangemouth or Falkirk one summers day (summer in Scotland = light drizzle) maybe 79 or 80 - does anyone know if they ever did such a thing ??

If not then it has to be the ill-fated 'Whatever you want' (I think - hosted by him (Keith Allen ??) out of the Comic Strip, as this shy wee lassie introduced herself then went on to do a nervous but powerful appearance. After that it was John Peel until the 1st vinyl was released.

I used to be in a kind of music version of a Book Group and the Twins got panned by the others in it and I dont think anyone else in the group ever got into the twins - but their loss !!

While I have liked many bands throughout my life, I have and still do worship the beauty that is the Cocteaus - and it never ages, always seems to be fresh and in touch - I just wish there was some way that they could release more stuff.

1983

Aged 15

John Peel (Radio 1) radio show, it was around 10.30pm & the track was "Grail Overfloweth"

Was in bed (my sisters were in the room asleep - it was a school night) wearing headphones.

Instant goosbumps & palpatations.

Couldn't sleep after!

"Garlands" released shortly after & bought it immediately.
Wrote to Liz the same day, sent it to 4ad - got a reply from her the following week.

Enriched my life, my record collection & fuelled my passion for music.

I think I mentioned this in a prevoius thread, but....

It was the Spring of 1996, I was 21, with a spring in my step, having just read about the Cocteau Twins in The Trouser Press Guide (Ira Robbins, get bent :moon: ) and was intrigued. After hearing similar positive feedback from a friend of mine, I went to the Camelot Music store around the corner and found the Bluebeard single/EP; enchanted by it's unusual cover, I decided to buy it and took it home to give it a listen. Ice-Pulse struck a nerve instantly and from there, I slowly began to develop a taste in their music, culminating in critical cocteau mass in 2002.

LOL I didn't mean to imply any sexual contact with Mr Plant, E-Lo !

He was the first person I can recall who was talking excitedly about the CT. It was in a glossy music mag (probably 83) that I can't recall the name of. He was answering the Q : so, what are you listening to these days ? He said something along the lines of : the CT are one of the most exciting new things around.

This was about a year after he played a Bulgarian folk song in "My Top 12" with Andy Peebles on Radio 1. Crazee !

The old feller certainly knows good music. He even did a version of Song To The Siren on his last album.

[B]-When did you lose it? 1981, very first time I heard them was through a crazy scottish uncle from Grangemouth(his name is Charles Cady if you recognize him fukka, he later moved to Preswick). He had returned from a visit there and said...there are these kids..at the local night club... something like that but unfortunately I was only 9 and was not interested. I later heard them again when I was 14 and had to catch my breath.

-How old were you? when I lost it.. 9 when I was interested 14

-With which song/album? dunno, Will Heggie was still with them when I first heard them, the second time it was Ella Megalast Burls Forever

-Where did it come from (borrowed CD, radio, tv, etc.)? recorded live from a groupie, and second time I was with my uncle rene in his car..I think it was a cd he had just bought

-Where were you?In Monterrey California on the warf, my uncle decided to take us fishing, I had a migrane and I told him to shut it off and take me home unfortunately :(
-Who were you with? Uncle Chuck and Uncle Rene

-How did it make you feel? The first time uninterested, the second time.. I stopped, wrapped myself around the speaker it was blaring out of and just held my breath for a little bit and then was totally in love

-How did it change your life? Through all the crap life I was living, it finally gave me an exit out of it. I listened and I was free for the moment and of course I would pay closer attention to the chord changes and became madly inlove with guitar noises and started playing:guitar:
