.....just wondering.....

has anyone out there found the occasional CT song ending to be a bit...abrupt?
now..don't get me wrong here..love the beginings, not all, but most of 'em..in the arts that's always the most difficult:forgiven, like my opinion matters;)

but what about the endings? seems to me some of their stuff just, well, stops. you know?

ever noticed this?

you all ok with this?

wondering...

Yeah, like Pitch the Baby...
but anyway, I prefer that over melodramatic or cinematic endings which I consider over done...funny, I'm trying to recall many CT song endings and largely draw a blank...they just slip out of my memory...the songs were so memorable I didn't give a second thought to the ending, except when it came too soon...heh

You're so right, Zed. For me, though, that's been part of the charm. I often sing with music and when music fades out, you kind of try to fade out with it until you just eventually have to stop. At least with the kinds of songs you're talking about that doesn't happen! ;) Yeah, some songs don't end the way you'd expect them to when you first hear them, but once you get to know the song, you (or at least I) couldn't hear them ending any other way. Besides, where's the fun in being predictable? :D

hmmmmm.
interesting.
i'm not talking about big heavy metal -end -off -the- world stuff here
but more like tieing up the theme of the song, which, to be a song it must have..begining, middle, end.

i'm wondering if it seems, sometimes to be incompleat, lose ends and all that.

predictability, or a surprise ending seems to me to have nothing to do with an ending. just a WAY of ending;)

you see?

i love most of the cocteau endings....maybe i'm a bit sadistic but i enjoy the abrupt endings of many of their songs. my only complaint is that i wish that some of their more fantastic songs were longer.....when you just get into them, they end and that just makes you want more!

zed: Yah, that makes sense...a distinctly composed ending needs neither be predictable nor cinematic...so in that sense, I like endings which actually have some thematic closure.

Clearly it depends on what the ending would be, so I guess in the spirit of my original response, I'd rather have no ending than a bad ending...but I like a distinct change for the end as I think your suggesting, if a cool one is found.
