people have often been perplexed by my answer to this question but here goes anyway - my least fave cocteaus tracks are: serpentskirt and cherry coloured funk!

Gotta be When momma was Moth..........
Creeps the fuck outa me.
to me there is just something very disturbed about that song.
of course Robin's on record that all he wanted to do with HoH is make the kind of record he'd like to listen to very, VERY stoned.
maybe he did.

'When Mama Was Moth' is a cracker!
My least fave is Musette and Drums.
C,...........
your opinion, is of course, yours.
i suppose peoples tastes for or against a particular song
has something to do with their personal history. you know, likes, dislikes, whatever.
for me with the long history i carry, "when Momma was Moth",
disturbes me. that's what the post asked.
i don't expect others to agree with me...well there my be someone out there that knows;) .
i fact, i'm sure she does. BUT.
that's another post!
glad you like the song i loath!!!

Agree about ....Moth, but disagree about Musette ...
Musette is awesome!
At the time I hoped that they would release a 12" extended version of these tracks, because I thought they weren't long enough!
I seem to remember that the live version of ...Moth did have an extended introduction.
Already mentioned my least fav, but since all my runner-ups have got a recent mention here....
Seems everybody loves Mussette...so I am pleasantly surprised to find someone other than myself that doesn't like it. I was starting to think I was the ONLY one that didn't like this song...heh...Same thing I get with another one of my dislikes: Tishbite
Zed: about HoH, I think maybe he WAS very stoned when he made it...seems like that entire album is buried in way too much of that grainy-sounding reverb or recorded in a tin can.
As mmmender said, to each his own, I'm thankful this band was as prolific as they were and percentage-wise...I like more of CT than many bands

what bothers me is that whenever there is a question about the least favorite cocteau twins song, people are inclined to "disagree" if they like something someone else has listed. it's so dumb. if i say i don't like mud and dark, or when mama was moth or whatever, no one can agree or disagree, because i'm not saying that it is like the "definite worst cocteau song", i'm just saying that it is the one *I* personally dislike the most. so please from now on don't bother to "disagree" with what people will list as THEIR least favorite song. no offense, but people have different tastes, you know.
ok, fair enough orange..point taken...in my only follow up post, I tried to stick to my other runner ups for least fav in keeping with the thread...since it is a toss up for me... but, frankly, given the topic(bringing up least favorite songs among loads of CT lovers...), be glad the replies are as civil and terse(non-rant-like) as they are...anyway, this is a discussion board after all...next time try some upfront clarification requesting people keep repies to brief mention of least fav...
I would have to say 'Essence.' In my opinion, it is the one scar on an otherwise brilliant album - FCC. I just wish they would have substituted 'Three Swept' instead...then the album would be perfect!

sorry scott, but i think it goes without saying. you just can't debate on whether some song should be someone's least favorite or not. and that thing about bringing up the "least favorite ct song" subject among the ct lovers... so what? i am a ct fan myself. they are my favorite band. buti don't feel that other fans should like all their songs, or that they shouldn't hate the ones i personally like. people have different tastes for god's sake. it's beyond any kind of debating. it's nothing to be insulted by.
hmmmmmm.
now that i think of it....i'm not crazy about evangeline.
boy this is gonna hurt.
wince*
can't explaine. ok, i could but i don't wanna type all night.
O-R: No need to be sorry, and no matter is it but I agree. I was unclear. I don't think one's least fav is up to debate, that was your point taken(as I meant to say) About CT lovers...I get it, I was joking about how some chat places you go(for various bands) the volume of inane scathing remarks for disliking anything can be silly...glad that isn't the case here.
I think it is common for discussion to follow(whatever it be)... Granted, that wasn't much the case here, but I am open more discussion, mostly cuz I like hearing why people like/dislike what they do, some threads people start by encourage people to expand on things..others more brief polls(as you wanted right?)...so I only wanted to suggest an upfront clarification on brevity doesn't hurt, not raise such a disagreement as I appeared to...and the suggestion is much more belaboured than intended...anyway....you've done so now..I just wanted to repost since I was so unclear. Sorry for the static, back to the polls...

My least favourite track is Watchlar. I read somewhere that Simon Raymonde
thought this was one of their best. Personally speaking there isn't anything wrong with the track , its just that to me it doesn't 'sound' like the Cocteaus.
I was surprised to see it on the Stars and Topsoil compilation. Funny though that in time some of our preferences change. I used to detest David Bowies version of China Girl but now I like it. So given time I might just get to really like watchlar.

STEVEN!!!!! I just went to your website...a Kieslowski-phile!!!!!!!!!
W
ps I still can't believe he's gone...i wonder what Heaven would have been like if he had directed it rather than Tykwer...
Ahh, another Kieslowski fan.... yes, I love his films.... :)
I haven't seen 'Heaven' but I've read negative reviews. From what I have heard it's too literal an inpretation of Kieslowski and Piesiewicz's script.
Oh, right...staying on topic I pretty much think 'cicely' sucks too.

The only song that has really ever bothered me by the band is the Milk and Kisses version of 'Half-Gifts'. When I first heard it I thought that calliope music was just awful...really unoriginal and unlike them. I used to not be able to listen to it all the way through. Now I can bear it but it still grates a nerve or two. ;)
