Today it's Squeeze Wax!!!!! I hate hate hate the economy but at least I have Squeeze wax to pull me out of it temporarily...listening to this makes me thing what I always said about liz's singing......I can hear so much anger int eh so called "happy" songs...I have a connection, a deep connection, lol
love to you all and I would not wish what I am going through at this moment to anyone
Hi there! My favourite cocteau twin song is "Pur". I love it. Bya
Pur is nice if you've got kids (hiya to Lucybelle) but since I don't have any it's a mediocre song for me. I much prefer the lush "Serpentskirt."
Emu
Today it is Bluebeard, yesterday it was Suckling the mender, the day before that it was Theft and Wandering around Lost...there was a day not so long ago it was I wear your ring.

Amazing how there are sooooo may cocteau twins songs but mu subconscience works silently and finds exactly what I want...for instance today I was feeling a little lonely and I knew I wanted to listen to ct but had no idea which one....I saw that song and I just doubled clicked...it started and I knew that that was exactly the song I was thinking about: Eggs and their Shells....so that is my fav song for today

Today my soul's song is "millimillenary"...
For the milleniums
that will enjoy
the cocteau twins legacy...
Tomorrow: This Love... it's simply Liz with her ethereal world falling over my lonely heart...
I saw a live version of Millimillenary which I really loved. Her voice was softer but still quite interesting. I think the recording was from ~85...
today I am quite enjoying Shallow then Halo
Today it has got to be Iceblink Luck
High Monkey Monk, yeah phil I eat up all those yummy quarter tones too, but a mere quarter tone doesn't begin to describe the versatile beauty of this singing....
Victoria

I love "Millimillenary", too.
Scott, I love CT lives performances, too.
I have an old video tape with CT "Live in Toronto, 1990"...
I love "Live in Paris, 1997", too. I have this recording in a cromo tape... In my country (Chile), "Live in Paris" was programing for an alternative's music radio... Is one of my treasures... the bis of "seekers who are lovers" is incredible...!!! They play "Song to the siren"... In this track, Liz's Voice sound whit a passion that makes cry...
Also a friend who aren't a CT fan (he likes metal music) was exciting for this... (a cup of tears fallen from his eyes when he listen to this track)...
Well, I love the version of "Pink Orange Red" from "Live in London , 1986") and from "Live in Toronto"... Ther first sound with much more sadness...
If somebody whants interchange CT material, contact me at my mail...
And sorry for my english' s redaction... I hope you understood me...
Kisses for Shells...

donimo is really stuck in my head right now..and calfskin smack sets me off also..most of head over heels right now.
Heh, that's cool! I was just listening to Treasure today(been a few weeks..long time) and thinking a bit about Donimo in fact, I love the guitar tone in that song, among other things....Amelia stuck around in my head a bit too...
But my fav ATM is Suckling the Mender..that song has some surreal dreamy effect on me...as some fuzzy place in my distant memories...something timeless about it(as with CT in general...but esp. so for me here)....this song is just taking me somewhere else...

for the longest time my favorite song was mizake the mizan.....
when i was a teenager i always thought of this one phrase that i could clearly hear liz say.........the fucking song is in spanish/portuguese/french...
i get it now. mizake the mizan= make the man.....peddle for drugs
there is one line where she says "esta enfermedad tan grande"
which means in sorrowful tone....this great sickness. it is like talking of something in a shameful way. can't explain it all that well as spanish is so very colorful compared to english.
my g/f is portuguese/irish and she was listening to the song on headphones and she said "this whole song is in portuguese(sp?)"
"was she a junkie a long time ago?" so I subjected her to listening to the song over and over. she says that some of the song is also in french which liz speaks fluently...if you have ever heard her on fuel's butterfly knife you know what i mean.
Then again my g/f is the one that misquoted liz as singing "sitting on a penis tree" lol on holv instead of "singing from the famous street" or something like that....
anyway, my favorite song for today is spanglemaker....it has always been in the top ten for me.
love to you all
spanglemaker
speckledspark(g/f)
today I'm drowing in Moon and The Melodies(yes the album as I've been listening to it straight through serveral times this weekend...what a bother it must end so soon).
While I can't split out the mood from the whole album at the moment, 'She Will Destroy You' seems the most emotional part of the mood, while 'Memory Gongs'and 'Wy Do You Love Me' are the surreal timeless parts that make me feel like I'm not where I'm sitting.

"SUCKLING THE MENDER"
My favorite song right now is 'Alice' if only for the fact I initially hated the song, and probably only listened to no more than five times. Then a 'bout a week ago I put in the 'green' violane single, and listened to it, and now have a new respect for it. The piano work is really nice, and I like the Seefeel esque sound bit at the end. Almost like a new cocteau song for me!

Have to agree with randomrob,
'Love's Easy Tears' always does it for me,
and 'Those Eyes, That Mouth'/'Sigh's Smell Of Farewell' compliment it perfectly :)
The one track that never fails to exhilerate me however is 'Rococo' - the way it builds takes my breath away and has me dancing like a loon ! :D

"SUMMERHEAD"

Current song is 'Little Spacey.'

Lazy calm and calfskin smack for the last few days.
Funny.....
i've always thought of the cocteau twins as an autmnal band.
the sweet/sad season...just seems right for them....
i know not everyone feels the same as i do about this, but i've always found that victorialand really suits the blustery fall days...
a very day dreamy album.
oh, yeah...back to the thread...
todays fav....for phoebe....
Z. all dreamy like....
Zed, I feel the same way. I think cocteau twins as a whole fits more into fall/winter seasons, but different albums have a different seasonal feel to me.
I always think FCC, Victorialand are Fall and Winter albums.
BBK and Treasure are Fall/Spring
Head Over Heals and HLV are summery, a bit more uptempo, warm....

Funny that, cos Victorialand is all summer to me. I am listening again to the Harold Budd collaborations, but the usual faves are V'land, Treasure, and tracks-wise: Musette and Drums, Oil of Angels, My Love Paramour, Wax and Wane, Seekers Who are Lovers, Pink Orange Red, Pandora, Frou Frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires (tell that to Prince Charles!), Theft and Wandering Around Lost...
:) we love 'em all...

Funny that, cos Victorialand is all summer to me
:) I love the fact that we all are so different in tastes, habits and feelings... the most "summerly" album for me is MILK & KISSES and it is the ONLY one CT album i listen to in the summer. I find VICTORIALAND a "collection" of christmas songs (i really can see snowflakes off my window...), and that's because i listen to it ONLY in xmas time :)
Fav CT song for the moment:
that's for me a looooooooong PEARLY-DEWDROPS' DROPS (12 inch version) period... Captured by this song!!
Lori
------------
on air now: Lush - Scarlet
I see what you are saying about seasons and CT...I get those feelings varying sometimes from song to song....every now and then some music will give me a strong sense of the season...quite subjective due to my own climate(I get the hot/cold extremes here) etc...hard to divide these seasonal songs are for me...I don't listen to any CT strictly by season :)
Victorialand does seem cold weather to me, but then I first got into it in college in early spring, which meant cold drizzling dismal weather...it was a nice way to go through that, that was my first CT experience actually..
HoLV seems late-spring
Garlands seems summery, much of the BBC disc does too depending..and Loves Easy Tears...
I think BBK seems Autumnal.
Moon and Melodies takes me back to chilly november days
Twinlights makes me think of xmas
I think parts of Treasure may be a wintery, but Aloysius and Lorelie don't so much to me..
these are all quick associations...I find many songs change their character(to my ear) in an interesting way throughout the year, through diverse influences...
Nicely said!

one great thing about hearing ccf live is that it allowed me a break from yelling, screaming, dancing and waving my arms! ;)
and you think i'm kidding, don't you?? LOL
Gee...mmmender named the torture bit...as I was going to say that'd be the first torture technique I'd use on mmmmender...to lock her in a [padded] room with CCF on repeat...eventually she'd be reminded of the beauty in Liz's vocal(which is certainly brilliant)....nothing less would be effective as we can see here...as discussion previous has only lead to projection of male ego from female parties...and attempted insults on manliness(turned out not to be an insult ironic as that was)

Rob (and this should really be in the joke thread, but it's relevant)
A young lad becomes fixated with tractors. He has posters of different kinds plastered all over his bedroom walls. His toy boxes are overflowing with toy tractors of every size, shape and colour. He has tee-shirts with tractors on, a duvet cover with a tractor print, the whole shebang.
One day, while out walking his dog, a tractor rounds a sharp corner and, without enough room left to brake, hits the unfortunate mutt and kills it. The lad is grief-stricken at the loss of his pet and, in a rage, tears up his posters, burns his tee-shirt and duvet covers and takes a lump hammer to his toys. He vows never to have anything to do ever again with tractors.
Many years later, the young lad has grown into a young man and drops into his local bar. Peering through the cigarette-smoke haze, he sees a young girl sitting alone and apparently crying. He walks over to her and asks if he can help.
"No, it's OK, thanks," she replies. "I just can't stand being in such a smoky atmosphere. It makes my eyes stream." On hearing this, the young guy starts a long, slow inward breath, sucking all of the smoke out of the air and into his lungs. With all of the smoke now in his body, he walks to the front door of the bar and blows it all out into the street.
"Thank you!" exclaims the girl. "That was very good! How on earth did you learn how to do that?"
"Easy," says the guy. "I'm an ex-tractor fan."

Victorialand is a big hit with my 5 year old son, so we're listening to that a lot, especially Oomingmak. He says it makes him feel happy:D
Personally, Athol-Brose is popular. I especially like that segment of the song where Liz's voice is reminiscent of bagpipes skirling away - very Highlander. I know that sounds weird, but thats what itt reminds me of.........Anyone else?
IMO there are three songs in this world that can't equal our descriptions: "My Truth, Essence, and Harold Budd's "A Stream With Bright Fish...That's, utterly, the most I can muster...
Okay, four songs: "The Ghost has no home" also, that bassline! These are only MO.
Wow! Lucky kid! I only wish I had heard Victorialand when I was 5!!

Yeah, baby! Danielle Dax! I missed her! Weirdo that she was. "Dark Adapted Eye" is just a riveting pop-goth masterpiece. Anyone remember that amazing album cover of hers where she's looking drenched and bruised and holding a big gun? Riveting.
So, where's she now? More of a visual artist who happened to make a couple of good records in the 80's-sort of thing, I suppose.
