WANTED: COCTEAU TWINS FANS!!

http://www.cocteautwins.org/followers/large_followers.jpg

THE CONCEPT.......
If you're the creator of a fan-made Cocteau Twins amateur music video or if you've ever entertained the idea of creating your own Cocteau Twins music video then please read on!

We are in the very early planning stages of trying to put together a DVD collection of fan-made Cocteau Twins music videos - "Followers Who Are Lovers." The main idea behind the project is to gather a wide selection of these amateur videos, made by dedicated fans, and then release a professionally-pressed DVD collection for everyone to enjoy. The important thing that will hopefully make this DVD different is that we plan on sending ALL of the proceeds (after absolute base production costs) from sales to the band members themselves!! It's just one way that die-hard fans can directly say 'Thank-you' back to the band that has given them so much joy over the years.

SOME HURDLES............
There are of course many hurdles to jump over if this (not-for-profit) project is to get off the ground and they include things like the band members themselves, the record label and the publishing company. Responses (pending) will affect the direction and content (live vs. album recordings being used) of the DVD.

SUBMISSIONS........
Until further notice for those of you who can't wait......It is best if you upload your video to the video-sharing and hosting website http://www.youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com/) Once your video has been uploaded you can then contact us via email: webmaster@cocteautwins.org (please include 'Cocteau Twins' in the subject line) providing a link to the location of your video on the website. Please also include the following details with your submission: your full name, title of your video, length of your video, version of the song used (standard album, remaster, live with dates, etc.), along with your email address.

MORE INFORMATION......
Again, this is just at the idea stage right now, who knows, if things don't pan out with those who control copyright permissions then this project may quickly become a thing of the past. While it is certainly a wonderful idea, it may end up never becoming more than just that.......an idea. More information about the project will be available in the near future. A temporary webpage has been set-up to provide answers to what will no doubt become some commonly asked questions about this project. The webpage is located here:

I have some ideas for making a video for either Ivo or Donimo, but I have absolutely no experience with the technology or software involved. I wouldn't know where to begin!

A VERY easy program is already built-in to Windows called "Windows Movie Maker"

It's incredibly simple to use.

Here are some links.........

I might have a go at filming three people looking distinctly uncomfortable while a camera swings around their heads. Or maybe not...:)

Or Iceblink Luck. As far as I recall every indie video for 10 years either had the band dodging a camera on a rope or standing in a field of rapeseed flowers.

Y'know, I never thought any moving visual image has really conveyed whatever-it-is-about-the-music-that-makes-it-so-great - but maybe it's a challenge to which one should give some serious thought, try and find a way to avoid using slow dissolves at least, sorry just thinking aloud here.

I'll be in exile for a month from Wednesday, filming, editing and completing various other things that have been on the back burner too long, so it might be fun to try to do something counterintuitive...

Yes, it's fair to say that the vast majority of their music videos were lacking on many fronts. That being said, I've always thought that the "Aikea-Guinea" music video (shot in Russell Mills' studio apartment) was always rather lovely and thankfully not at all pretentious.

Personally I loved the winter landscapes video Leesa did for one of the Victorialand tracks. It was beautiful in itself aswell as a good visual representation of the music - Victorialand being a very 'wintery' album for most people.

Such an awesome idea, this DVD project! Had experimented with a two Cocteau Twins tracks with a series of motion/graphic compositions a while back (2004/05)... I've uploaded them to YouTube here:

Know Who You Are At Every Age (Four-Calendar Café)

Oil Of Angels (Four-Calendar Café)

PS: thanks for the old Cocteau's promo's and other fan video work on the YouTube Garlands group!

Michael, thanks for submitting those two videos, they are both very beautiful. I think if I had to pick one I'd go with the KWYAAEA video, it's so lush and smooth and fits the music very well. I look forward to seeing some more of your work.

For those of you who already know their way around the basics of video editing software, there is a EXCELLENT program out there by the ultimate editing company AVID. It's called 'FREE DV' and it's basically a slim-down version of their popular 'AVID MEDIACOMPOSER' software which is pretty standard in post-production facilities. It's a completely free to use software which never expires. You can download a torrent (or standard) version of the program from this link:

http://download.chip.eu/en/Avid-Free-DV-1.6.1_101934.html

You will also need these demo codes to activate the software:
Demo Serial Number : AvidFreeDV-85E0
Demo Authorization Code: AF7R-XJ5C-UC7K-552H-KE7Q

great idea leesa

but do you think you will have the rights to use the music of those videos ?

i'm just doing the devil's advocate because there seems to be a great deal of work involved and it will be stupid if at the end you can't make the dvd because of those songs copyright issues. you know how 4ad can be bitchy about it...

or maybe you can release a silent dvd, that would be interesting !

anyway good luck.

Vivian-

Thats a really good point.

I recently made a two hour music DVD collection (some I made, some were the real deal) I only gave copies to my best friends (a few on this here list) in fear of copyright infridgement. Although, homemade vid's are on YOUTUBE?

It sucks but after what Lessa went through, Id rather avoid the BS.

I'd like to know further down the line a list of songs covered so I can pick a different one. There are many songs I'd love to cover but I don't want anyone to steal my thunder lol. Great concept indeed! Thanks so much you guys for the opportunity!
