okay.

as i listened to Blue Bell Knoll yesterday, i concluded that the songs on this particular album seem way more joyful and optimistic than the songs on any of the other albums.

anyone else agree with this POV?

and, i can't help but wonder why.......was this perhaps their "happiest" period as friends, and lovers, and collaborators?

or was this their deepest darkest period of interpersonal conflicts and drug addiction?

unusually optimistic art can rise out of either condition, i've noticed.

and, to be sure, Blue Bell Knoll sure seems like one long sonic ecstatic frame-of-mind after another.

were they then happy happy the ever so happiest?

or was all of this sonic joy just a sweet compensation for their ensuing, and on-going difficulties and miseries.......

anyone?

...to me it's always been an album of shadows and lights.
like driving along a tree lined road with the sun shining,.....

a strobe of feelings, some very high, some quite low indeed.
granted you could say they ALL do that, but BBK is to my mind a masterpiece of revelation and concelment.

it is always in a perpetual tie for first place with HOLV as my favorite cocteau albums of all time. a real tip off that it was a personal high for them is as simple as reading they're qoutes about the makeing of it ,...things like "dead easy" and such.

it musta just flowed out.

i think that the tracks found on bbk are somewhat more "flighty" than other recordings. this is due perhaps to extremely long and intense periods of complete intoxication.
