I know Phil's mentioned the Wal-Mart, but what's the "asda"? Atlantic Society for Disabled Antelopes? ;-)

It's one of Britains largest supermarket chains, about the third biggest I think. It was bought out by Wal-Mart in 1999 but sadly they don't appear to have introduced US prices yet.

Sorry, "Bristol" always makes me think of Benny Hill. I seem to remember that he used it as a childish euphemism for a womens' breasts.

Benny Hill was such a dork!

sad but true......i didn't buy any CD's in London at all last week.

though, i did spend a nice late morning run around the used CD shops of Berwick Street (...thanks again to the great tip from one of our mates here, by the way) and i did manage find a sealed copy of the glorious Krom "This" album for a mere 1 pound (but which i, unfortunately, already own having spent $25+ for it as an import on Gemm.) so there are some bargains to be had on Berwick if you scour hard enough.

the Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street is big mess right now and looked rather worn around the edges compared to what i remember seeing in 1997; of course, the new cyber-cafe is quite nice and something new to me.

but, ah, London! what a fantastic town it is......i'd happily live there half the year if i could (and my SO seemed to feel the same way.) as the ultimate world class city, i am now preferring it over NYC. the food, the shops, the museums, the people, the whole town has the most "human friendly" atmosphere of conveniences that i've never seen anywhere before.......the South Bank area is a beautiful new addition, also.

the only two things in the UK that seem never to change is the lousy exchange rate of the dollar to the pound, and so few television channel (though i finally got to see my first episode of Six Feet Under playing right there totally uncensored in the heart of the evening.)

didn't get out of town this time.....Bristol is definitely on my wishlist, for sure.....as well as a return trip to tacky-lovely Blackpool.

and this is what i now feel like with the obligatory returning jetlag:
