News to me ...
It should be noticed that the remastering which was done from the original masters was done for CD, not for vinyl which is a completely different process.
A little more toothpaste being squeezed from the tube methinks.

Here we go again yet another example of a record company pissing over the artists who made them their money in the first place, once again Robin you're entirely correct.
In fact [with regards to the vinyl "remasters"] 4ad & 180g have done so much squeezing of late i'm surprised they don't have a collective case of piles!!!
But I have previously made my opinion clear on these particular releases & of course its is just my opinion. However I am not against remastered reissues per se after all I have just purchase the excellent sigur ros vinyl remasters.
But the difference [as far as i can make out] is that sigur ros have had a comprehensive involvement & consultation with their reissue releases.
Now of course their royalty payments will be subject to the terms of their contracts with the relevant labels that issued the original albums.
It seems to me there are several issues here
One being that cocteau twins have not been financially re-numerated for these vinyl reissues.
Another being is that although robin worked on the the remastering for the cds releases [IMO an excellent job was done too].
He was not approached to work on the vinyl remasters [therefore i can only assume neither was simon or of course elizabeth].
Which if nothing else smacks of poor business sense [ after all i personally purchased the cd remastered versions [in all available packaging formats] because robin was involved and would have done likewise if simon or elizabeth had been involved].
In addition to this there appear to be concerns being raise from different quarters as the the legitimacy of the "remastering" of these vinyl additions.
Given that 4ad have in the past lavished great expense up other artists reissued collections who where formerly [& maybe currently still be in some form or other] signed to their label in some form or other.
Examples of which of course include the Dead Can Dance towards the within & SACD remastered box sets.
Along with the collaborative work in issuing the lavishly produced Pixies box set to be issued via the artists in residence label later this year.
It would appear that once again aside from the excellent cd remastered albums & L2V sets, cocteau twins & their recorded legacy has been woefully mistreated & under presented by their former record label[s]
Once again it is NOT for me to say what re issues fans of any band should purchase or boycott. But as a long term devotee & collector cocteau twins all i'm saying is that for myself I cannot give sanction to these releases.
& yes of course i'm fully aware that nobody acutally give flying fuck about the band anyways. After all as long as we keep getting more product what does it matter if the artists get screwed over.
After all nobody held a gun to their heads when they signed their contracts blah blah blah & other such bullshite thats trotted out durring these types of disscussions.
But as I mentioned this is just my opinion on the matter. People are at liberty to do what the fuck they like. :slapfight: etc etc etc.......
I remember not long ago when this was happening with HOH it was pointed out to me that while the releases may be exploitive the band is getting royalties. Maybe they don't approve of the product but 4AD can't sell their music without paying them can they?

I would have thought it would be a matter of the royalties clauses of their original 4ad & subsequent contracts with fontana capital & Mercury i.e they may have signed a contract that only paid them a "wage" whilst in contract with the label in question & therefore relinquishing any claims on subsequent royalties on future reissued releases
Although an artist may have written recorded and produced all their own work. If they had signed away their rights to that material [whether they where aware or not] then it would technically be possible for their current or indeed as in this case former label to release any number of reissues without the bands knowledge involvement or consent with only nominal or in some cases no royalties payments being made.
Only Robin Simon or Elizabeth would be in position to clarify what the details of their record deals / contracts entailed. But for me that's a private matter which they alone have the right to publicly disclose if they so choose.
For me its as much about royalties as it is about a labels representation of an artists body of work & the relationship between the record industry and its artists.
Of course my opinions are that of a lay person & I'm of course biased in my perspective & my opinions because of my love of cocteau twins body of work & my addiction to all this cocteau lololol
