View Full Version : Concert in Gateshead on June 11th
Thursday June 11th, at The Sage in Gateshead
Robin Guthrie, co-founder of the mighty Cocteau Twins, collaborator with This Mortal Coil, Chapterhouse and Harold Budd and co-founder of the Bella Union label, headlines a night of music, moving image and spoken word. Maverick record label and Fife-based artist association The Fence Collective provides special guest, James Yorkston - who writes “songs that sound not so much written as carefully retrieved from your own subconscious” (The Times) - with David Thomas Broughton opening. Literary stylings come from bestselling Faber authors Michael Smith (‘Giro Playboy’) and Richard Milward (‘Apples’). The Good Vibration harnesses rock ’n’ roll and literature in support of connected care in the community.

omg....that's quite a hike from London then, eh?
& without the amusements or accommodations of stately Blackpool.
sigh.
:wizard:
The coast is nearby - South Shields, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Cullercoats, but you're quite correct, they aren't quite Blackpool.
Hey! I'm proud that our coastline is unsullied by the genital wart variety of seaside resorts = Blackpool.
Whitley Bay does have the Spanish City, as immortalised by Mark Knopfler. That's about as tacky as it gets.
South Shields is rather pretty in places.
Further up the same coastline there are the historic splendours of Bamburgh and Lindisfarne.
Blackpool is a cesspit!
Not that I'm in any way biased .......

Blackpool does have one thing in its favour .... trams run along the front & they have some gorgeous 30's double deckers ... & walking up the lights watching the trams role past (some lit up) is a good free-ish night out

dammmmm.
everytime i mention Blackpool hereabouts, it never fails to incite fury.
okay....i guess it's my kinda cesspool (that strand! those trams! the Pleasure Beach 'Grand National'! some splendid turkey sandwiches under the Tower! and, truth to tell, some splendid gay dance clubs & guest hotels near the North Station.)
granted, it's no Covent Garden.....but hey....i get plenty o that in Londontown.
I have an urge to listen to "Tunnel of Love" now

A Dire Straits track ... shock ... but then Mark Knopfler is a Geordie

I was in no way being critical - I just said they weren't like Blackpool, and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
discussion about the merits of UK coastal areas aside ....
does anyone know the reason for this cancellation?
I am concerned that this (together with the other recent cancellation in Liverpool) will cause Robin to resist playing future performances in the less accessible areas of UK and at the end of the day that wouild be a crying shame for his fans .....
I truly hope that this will not be the case and that I will have chance to hear him play live again in the future (without having to travel to foreign locations)?
oh, and I'll be travelling to Bamburgh/Berwick tomorrow - so I'll wave to Moya as I pass Hartlepool!!!

I feel it important to point out that both of these concerts have been canceled on me as opposed to by me. This, I'm afraid is beyond my control. I have prepared extensively for those performances and I am saddened by, both last minute decisions on the part of the promoters and the fact that I am aware that some people have paid for tickets, travel and accommodation. I am also out of pocket as I had also arranged travel for these performances and due to my committing to them, had to refuse other bookings.
Please don't hesitate to contact the promoters for refunds.
England, huh?
I'm sure we all understood that the cancellation was on the part of the promoters rather than due to you, Robin, but good of you to set the record straight as always ....
There may be reasons beyond their control, but one would hope that the promoters would at least try to explain why ... but nothing appeared on the websites as far as I can see ...
Hopefully this won't deter you from performing again over here? perhaps another tour of the PictureHouse Establishments?
at least from your point of view this second cancellation happened BEFORE you had boarded another Air France plane at Charles de Gaulle airport? ;)
good luck!
