I received this email today and thought I'd share it all with you.......
Hi Leesa,
I recently recorded music on my CD in a tribute to Robin Guthrie and Cocteau Twins. The CD is called Psychedelic Freak Show and may be sampled on www.myspace.com/blixir20.
And the version of "As I Breathe" I wrote and performed off the Continental CD can be heard on ourstage.com. (I hope that you enjoy the lyrical style.) It includes the new tune entitled "Fetish Feat."
Peace!

mmm nice to receive the email im sure but not wanting to sound unkind the myspace stuff sounds terrible
I wonder if he got the term "Psychedelic Freak Show" from that Third Eye Blind song. Heh.
Oh my god! The "As I Breathe" version is fucking shit!! lol

My bad. This message to Leesa was supposed to be a private note to her because she was interested in hearing the song. If I had known that it would be put out on a ridiculous forum for unhappy souls, I would have saved my "pearls for much noteworthy swine," then I could really give a damn about what others say or think. Any hoo! I only try to express my ART my way and I do not intentionally try to emulate anyone else– especially Peter Murphy. But thank you for all the positive feedback anyway. Blessings!

Oh, now I see what the random-seeming comment was about.
You guys ^^^ are being exceedingly and disappointingly nasty. This is exactly why I don't post my own music here and never will.
Would you yourself take kindly to such harsh comments? No, you would not.

I think he must have been the recipient of some nasty PMs. Or maybe he posted his work somewhere on the forum and someone went ahead and criticized it, because he broke the unspoken rule that you don't use a forum like this primarily for the promotion of your own work (unless you really know everybody - you know, just like you would proceed in a real life social group).
I didn't really bother to check which it was.
I think it stems from this thread started by mmmender who received an email from the guy and wanted to share his music with the rest of us?
http://www.cocteautwinsforums.com/showthread.php?t=22701
seems to me if someone can't handle responses (I'll make no comment on whether they responses are fair or otherwise - each to his own after all) to his music then why post the stuff up on something like Myspace??
I mean, I know that not everyone is going to like the sort of music I produce, and I accept their right to dislike it.
I have my own thoughts on the music posted on Blixir's myspace page, but in light of his anger at receiving any comments I will not be posting them.
If I had known that it would be put out on a ridiculous forum for unhappy souls, I would have saved my "pearls for much noteworthy swine," then I could really give a damn about what others say or think.
how to lose friends and alienate people??

I understand now what happened. It was a weird chain of events, but I must say, representatives of our group behaved badly. Xavierb, regardless of his unfamiliarity with forum protocol, was the recipient of some breathtaking rudeness and unfriendliness.
I'm very disappointed at this.

I avoid anything referred to as (insert band name) flavored, in the spirit of, a tribute to, etc. Fanservice. Pass.
Funny post though

Im not much of a fan of the As I Breathe cut. Taking someone else's instrumental and adding vocals to it? I think the myspace stuff is ok. This guy sent me a friend invite to join in a collaborative music project, but never really said what it was. What it seemed like was letting him post your music on his page. Anyway, I dont use myspace anymore for music.. moved on to LastFM.
If this hadn't been posted in 3 forums simultaneously as COCTEAU related material, I doubt the reception wouldve been so harsh.
Damn, now I feel bad about the Third Eye Blind comment. Consider me scolded, Andy.

It was an uncool mix to begin with. Do your own music.
Robin's songs need no vocals (exsept Liz of course).
Maybe it's the whole "male" vocal thing with me.
Love the music on "Mirrorball", but still not getting into John Foxx's vocals
on these tracks. IMHO.
Think I'm missing Ms. Fraser too much!

I also would not slop badly recorded vocals onto someone else's song (I spend enough time slopping them onto my own). I didn't even listen to the myspace stuff, just the Guthrie track. I'm standing by my original comment - why would someone do that?
p.s. I would love to hear some of your music, Andy.

Thanks guys. For the record, I didn't listen to the music in question, but that wasn't the point. I was just commenting about the collective TONE around here. I hate that 'blood in the water' thing that happens once in a great while. It's crappy, even if not exactly 'wrong'.
Anyway, I'm over it and no hard feelings toward anybody.

not attempting to defend anything that's been said etc. but I think there's been a little "break down" in communication here - it seems likely that he was in communication with mmmender who passed on the information thinking others may be interested in listening also. (no criticism on her for doing this intended)
the responses were possibly posted without realising (I presume) that the creator was also a member of the forum?
that said, the recipient of the "criticism" hasn't especially endeared himself in the manner and content of his response, and also the fact that he hasn't been able to post his own response in the correct thread ...
perhaps we should all take a step back, take 3 deep breaths and start again?
time to inject a giggle....
I was looking at a list of threads in Pandora's Box, and when I came across this one, my mind piped up with: "why would there be a thread called 'a tribute to Robin Gibb and the Cocteau Twins'"?
*please don't hate me Mr Guthrie*

ive just made a cocteau related cup of tea [ in that im listening to a live recording of cocteau twins from 1983 whilst im making a cup of tea ]
sorry maybe i misunderstood but it seems to me that Xavierb was under the impression that mentioning that his "music" was cocteau related or inspired by them some how gives it validity
truth be told there a shed load of shitty cocteau cover versions or songs "inspired" by our beloved twins
but as the old saying goes you can call it what you want just don't call it soul
back to my cocteau cuppa
if you read his myspace page (oops! that means I did doesn't it?) he lists "The Police" first in a list of influences well before "cocteau twins" ....

Retitle thread 'Everybody Loves Robin Guthrie Karaoke'... :crying:
That would be a great reality show - jerks auditioning to become Robin's new vocalist. They could call it "So You Think You're A Shoegazer..."

Ann Robinson is Moby's mother?????
:D
Careful ... this is how urban myths start
btw - Anne Robinson's autobiography was called 'Memoirs of an Unfit Mother' as it describes her drinking problem. An admitted alcoholic, Robinson stopped drinking on 12 December 1978 after picking her daughter up from school and driving to a petrol station to buy a bottle of vodka.
