I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the chorus in Violaine is still inintelligible and that the song isn't fully reported in lyrics on any website. ( I mean, as I get it, and I repeat, I may be wrong because I'm from Venice Italy and not a mothertongue english speaker, I only recognize the lyrics from the background voice in the chorus, but not the main chorus lyrics).

Any help or suggestions would be wonderful, as we're planning to cover the song.

There are no officially published lyrics for any Cocteau Twins songs at all.
Any lyrics you find on the internet are mostly interpretations by fans - they are not original. Whilst various interviews with the band have referred to Liz having a book in which she wrote her lyrics, they have never been published.

So if you want to cover the song you can basically sing whatever you want, whatever fits. That's what most of us think Liz actually does anyway.

Thanks, being an old time Cocteau fan this I knew already, but at the same time I have to say the interpretations are always quite close. It is only that Violaine lyrics in my opinion miss the chorus, and I wanted to know if someone did interpret that chorus.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think we will cover it if the lyrics are unclear to us, but we will for sure if we manage to get all the lyrics of the song.

You are partly correct.

Elizabeth has published SOME of her lyrics, in writing and via audio and other formats, on a few occasions.

1. Excerpts from the lyrics to songs on "Garlands" are featured in the original vinyl release artwork;

2. Excerpts from the lyrics to songs on "Head Over Heels" are featured in the original vinyl release artwork;

3. Excerpts from the lyrics to songs on "Milk & Kisses" are featured in the sleeve artwork;

4. Complete or nearly complete lyrics to the songs, "Rilkean Heart," "Half-Gifts," and "Tishbite" were included in the videos for those songs;

5. She recited some of the "words" to "Whales Tails" in a radio interview in the 90s;

6. She recited some of the lyrics to "Cherry-coloured funk" on BBC Scotland radio a couple of years ago as part of the half-hour tribute to "Heaven or Las Vegas";

7. For the songs "Iceblink luck," "Bluebeard," and "Evangeline," she transcribed the lyrics for closed captions for television broadcast (and if I recall correctly, she wasn't too happy about having to do it for "Iceblink luck," but MTV insisted).

As for "Violaine" specifically, the words that are in the sleeve art for "Milk & Kisses" are basically English words spelled backwards:

Ectefamof oitavito fles eth yll-anif
snoitatimil noitae chus sec-cus
namukadnu itnemavom lacigolochysp.

(Read backwards: "Psychological...success...such limitations...finally the self...")

Actually, the words in the M&K artwork can be hard to make out, but I think the "Violaine" part is something like this in reverse:

psychological movement [undakuman?] success such action limitations finally the self motivation [fomafetce?]

...or something...
