Yet another way for 4AD to get fans to pay out for music they already own. Thankfully I lost my ability to play vinyl when I bought a new amp many years ago
I'd be curious as to if Robin, Simon, and Liz see and of the proceeds that result from its sale.

Another kick in the asses of our beloved CT! Do they even bother to let them know about this? If someone messed with my art, let alone cheatted me out of $...WATCH OUT! They must be stopped! The worst part is you know they will NEVER release an officail CT video collection and toss em the cash.

I remember Robin mentioned sometime ago, that the band do not get any profit....
I guess the only reason for buying this is for the fact that its limited edition and includes new 23 Envelope packaging which may increase its value at a later stage... though most people who will buy it will be CT/4AD collectors and therefore not sell it.
As I already have the original UK vinyl and CD editions of all CT releases, I personally dont see the point as (thankfully) Im not gripped with the collector bug - never understood the need to have various foreign versions of something I already have - its the same music ffs !!

I remember a friend buying all the 5367 versions of Frankie goes to Hollywood's Two Tribes. Never understood that either, but I like the design of this set so if it's for sale for a normal price I'd think bout it.

I could never get hold of the Hibakusha Remix, and that's now the most valuable one.

^^ you got it - the Amazon version is all 4 albums in the new box on pre-order. The ebay is the box, 1 album and space for the rest, which if they are selling it now is maybe a promo ??

At least there were different mixes of that tune .. this is just another re-issue with fancy artwork

From what Robin has said they do make money from it, it's just not very much because the contract they signed all those years ago (of their own free will) was crap.

Just because 4AD ripped off some young band, who probably had no idea what they were doing, isn't a reason for them still to be receving a pittance all these years later

heheh i meant the reference for the box set is box set ONE which implies there will be another to include victorialand bbk & heaven or las vegas
i just wish that moon & the melodies was included in the remaster series that robin produced i know its not strictly speaking a cocteau twins album but its gorgeous none the less she will destroy you is just stunningly beautiful

Isn't that how the music business has always worked? Heck, isn't that how business works full stop? And what industry do you know that pays more as things get older? I realise they may not have got the best deal, but the fact is they signed it and nearly 30 years on there's not much point us getting all self-righteous about it. The fact is they get paid based in the contract they signed, and they'll be earning money for these that they wouldn't be earning if 4AD didn't put them out. And at least they asked Robin to remaster the originals so he got something out of it when they could have got some faceless techie to do it probably for less money.

i ordered my boxset off amazon.com for £54 with free postage as oppposed to if i'd ordered it from the uk [where i live] via amazon.co.uk which would have cost me £70 !

I've a feeling that 4AD let Robim remaster the CT albums because they thought more people would buy them if his name was on them ... & most people on here would say they were right in this thought

Let's hope you don't get stung with a big VAT & Import Tax bill from royal rip off mail when they deliver it to you. They've done that to me a few times.

Oh, I don't want to piss off Robin, but the box looks so beautiful. Also I buy all of his new records, so I feel like I do support him. They get royalties from these releases, right? Even if they don't sanction them?
The charge for imports is annoying. It used to be the responsibility of the Customs & Excise which meant only a very small number of parcels got caught, and if you did get caught the amounts concerned were comparatively low. Then they changed the rules to make the delivery companies responsible for collection, but crucially they also allowed the companies to charge a handling fee as well, and often that's the biggest part of the charge and there is absolutely no way you can avoid paying it. So you're effectively paying a charge for paying the tax and import duty - double whammy. I've had to pay a £10 fee for a tax and import charge of around £2.50, so actually quadruple whammy!

Yeah its got so much worse than before - Royal Mail charged me £8 handling fee as well as the £3.50 C&E tax - just means I dont buy as much from the States as I used to - sorry Projekt

Edward, I agree. I want all the vinyls so bad but I just hope they're worth it. The packaging makes me want them even more! Time to bust out the record player from under the bed!

Robin once posted in a thread - I think it was when the HOH vinyl re-issue came out - suggesting that the original masters are not in such a great state and that 4AD doesn't even have them.

.... how these can be remastered as the remasters were done for CD. Cutting vinyl is a whole different process as anyone with at least an ounce of knowledge of pro-audio will tell you.
So, goodness knows what they sound like.
I, of course, couldn't tell you because until a moment ago, when I looked at this thread to be exact, I had no knowledge of this release.
The music industry once again show it's true colours.
Don't buy it. It just encourages them.

I had to do it.....bought a USB turntable today. I certainly hope it's worth it (the remastered records, that is). Just pulled out my Kissed Out Red Floatboat 12".......and the nostalgia kicks in.

Repackaging product that already exists just doesnt seem to make sense. Obviously a good reason why the expression " fools and their money are soon parted" exists.
