View Full Version : Title track mentality

You know how some albums have a title track eg (BBK) and some haven’t? (eg Treasure) Do you attach any importance to this? Not just CT’s here but all bands. Do you perhaps see any title track as the pivotal one to the whole piece? Or is it just meaningless or even laziness in not thinking of another title for the album? Are they more suited to concept albums?

The thing I find most odd is when a band releases a ‘title track’ on another release after the album. Eg Elbow, ‘Asleep at the back’

Thoughts?

I think every band might have their own answer to this.

I suspect that most artists don't have an album title in mind when they go into the studio, and choosing one of the song's titles just prior to the album release can be easier and faster than sitting around debating other possibilities. Maybe it's the title of the song they're happiest with...or if the album has a 'theme', the one that best encapsulates said theme...or maybe it's a title that inspired the cover artist...or maybe they just thought it sounded the coolest, or looked best on the CD spine.

Or there is the Yes option, who used the catalogue number of the album as the title - hence "90125".

....i rarely dwell on any titles at all.

all of energy goes toward the music itself.

(i do know, however, that i think Hail To The Thief sucks as an album title.)

so tired&political&negative.

but, still, the music is more important.

CT's song titles always remind me of Rene Magritte's painting titles: amusing mainly for their sense of their absurdity.

New Order often selected a songtitle of absolutely no relation to the song, musically or lyrically. Almost as a game. Is there a term for this?

Irksome little feckers!
Love em though
