Not wanting to turn this into a q and a thing,
But I was wondering if you have collected stuff relating to the cocteau twins over the years. Like live recordings or cuttings?
I know Robert Smith has a massive collection of cure live stuff and quite a few other bands do that too. I saw an Undertones documentary/film recently and the O'Neill bros have scrapbooks full of loads of cuttings and original letters etc.
I was just wondering, not meaning to pry :)

i'm not going to answer for simon but i can say that i know that simon doesn't collect cocteau albums and singles.....since he got a copy of the 3" iceblink luck (german) cd single from me....which he didn't even know existed til i showed him mine! (er...then i asked him to show me his and then i woke up from my dream) :)
speaking of the undertones....i met one of them just this past july while in my hometown of derry (n. ireland).....my mum's best friend is married to jim o'neil....who is a brother of the two undertone's o'neil brothers. they let me stay in their house for free for 3 weeks, super nice people. nice bloke....gave up autographs like nothing! (you reading this robin???) ;)

nah it's not.
he has nowt to do with them now.
I was a big fan of the undertones from day one until last year when I saw the Teenage Kicks film/documentary thing.
I don't know why but it completely put me off them.

no. i am a bit weird. i do collect a few things but not CT -related, though i have a FCC jigsaw i think somewhere and a dutch mag with a cocteaus flexi disc, but to be honest i am not that bothered. i was/am a bit wary of being a sad old man who sits staring out of the window looking at a scrap book. I have the internet, and you lot to remind me what i did, and to send me photos I loathe to look at!
The music is really the only thing i think i may be curious to hear sometime in the future, and really that is the only thing i think is particularly relevant, because for me, listening always conjures up very strong pictures and memories for me.
I don't own a camera for this reason. I prefer to witness something and capture it inside and experience it first-hand.
I collect Orson Welles memorabilia, old film posters by Saul Bass. I have every episode of Sgt Bilko-the Phil Silvers Show, and a 15 yr collection of Time Out magazine which i am getting rid of.
Oh yeah, I once had a really cool Jap vinyl bootleg which was similar looking to treasure i think it was called something stoopid and all bansh-gothie, like 'scream' maybe. But this interviewer from a CT fanzine came to my house and started being really weird and i wanted to get rid of him, so i gave him that. I hear it's quite rare? Never mind.

I'm with you there.
Listen to 'Garlands', and I'm listening to John Peel telling me about this wonderful new band he loves.
Listen to 'Lullabies', and I'm back there, in my bedroom, grounded for painting 'Cocteau Twins' in huge black paint, vertically down my wall.
Listen to 'Loves Easy Tears' and I'm getting ready to see you live in Kilburn, London.
Years of memories all on little silver discs -
*PRICELESS*

all interesting and my thanks to Simon for answering :)
And I like a lot what was said about music being the thing that makes you remember..or along those lines..I'm in edit here so can't see what was written! I just know I thought..'yup, must put that in in edit mode'
Collecting and hunting down stuff is a strange thing in a way. When you think about it, a new band comes up all fresh and of the moment and there is really nothing to collect. Then they get time-stamped by reviews, articles and collectors. Not a slight, just a thought.
Actually, it occurs to me that that is what was odd about the undertones thing. Keeping huge scrapbooks and copies of everything you've ever done. It all seemed very sad and 'back then' rather than living and producing in the now.
I own several thousand records and cds but don't have a complete collection of anyone, not even official releases let alone rarities and ltd editions. Not deliberate, I've just never had a thing about collecting.
I do however have complete collections of Buffy and Angel trading cards (other than the autographs) :D

cant help but wonder if Simon is excited about the original 'outer limits' 1st season coming out on DVD.......
You know...seems it's true.
almost everybody has a collecting thing for something...
even if it's only half serious, they have a wee little jones for whatever.
with me, as much as i love the music, and i've got a few really nice pieces..i'm really hung up on the ephemeria...magazine articals, photos, and the like.
stuff that would have ordinairally been thrown out.
they seem all the more precious for that...
my thing i guess.

Wow...Simon gave away his copy of 'Scream'. That's too funny. I have one which I bought for $40 from some guy in Canada about ten years ago. So there was a copy in your country at one time Leesa. ;) It's basically just decent(read not great) sound quality versions of some of the radio sessions which are now all available on the BBC Sessions. I guess it's pretty cool as far as collector items go but I'm not sure how relevant now with the BBC Sessions officially released. I have thought about selling mine but then again maybe I won't. ;)
