hello all. i'm so glad to see simon around here! simon, has anyone approached you or bella union about remixing cocteau twins material? i'd love to hear people of different styles take on the CT catalog. i love otherness. i'd think that the german down-tempo masters like kruder and dorfmeister would have a field day with the CT songs. i thought that wax and wane with mark clifford was really cool.....

this topic creeps up a lot and i am always inclined to give the same response..........."if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

btw, welcome to the board, please take a moment to introduce yourself on the newbies board (http://www.herb-bauer.com/~leesa/cocteautwins/vBulletin/full/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=13):)

Agree with that statement!! When groups remix their tracks I always prefer the original version. Wonder what would happen if I heard the remix first? The Cure and New Order have been guilty of this in the past and I bought the remixes, and I thought why did I waste my money on this? So now I generally don't bother.
If they did extended versions of When Mama Was Moth and Musette and Drums (as long as the rest was the same), then I would be interested!

very true about bad remixes detracting from the original, but truly great ones make you understand something new about the song that you may not have gotten before. i love the remix of cherry coloured funk on otherness. i think ccf is one of the sexiest songs penned by the ct, but the remix brings this tender vulnerable element to the song. i view it as an interpretation of the work, a gesture of love and respect when it is done well....

I wouldn't mind hearing Aphex or Squarepusher's take on the Twins...For entertainments sake (beautiful view meets disturbing view).

MMMmmmmendy has a point with the "if it ain't broke" angle, especially where CT are concerned but, in addition to Otherness, the '96 live segment with Mark Clifford was a truly wonderful thing. Wax & Wane anyone? Where CT remixes are concerned I think less is more. I'd say Bjork is an example where it can really work well and with originality.

i doubt it would happen.
someone has to comission it and get our approval....and yeah that bit ain't gonna happen.
too hit and miss, and who's gonna pay K & D ten grand to do one track? 4AD no. Mercury, never . Capitol? Don't make me laugh.
Art of Noise remix album, good example...two good remixes, 6 rubbish ones...People will be cynical about it, money for old rope....would have to slip out on 12'' white label for anyone to take it seriously

so...k&d charge $10K for one track? that's crazzzzy! i just had my ghetto fabulous party as that's where i live. too bad you all couldn't come. do you like the idea of a remix simon or not? if so, who would you like to take on the back catalogue? btw, i played the k&d remix of bomb the bass which is mighty fine at my party. i've had a tad too much to drink tonight and should kick myself off line!!!!!!!

I feel that the Twins have proved to us already that they are capable at producing GOOD remixes of their own music. I would love to hear such a project from the Twins, hell, I'd love to hear ANYTHING from the Twins(except Bluebeard. Sorry!:D), but it just ain't gonna happen anytime soon. (notice I didn't say 'ever' or 'never';)) Besides, their heart would have to be in it for it to really work.

If "Otherness" is an example of what can be done by remixing CT tracks, then forget it.

With the greatest respect to the band, "Otherness" must be the one CD I never play - it's a weak as a vicar's handshake.....Christ, I play "Garlands" more than "Otherness".

Apparently, I have a crap attitude, no grip on reality and preach a lot.

I'm a nice person.

I need a hug. (laughs up his sleeve).

i honestly think that if garlands wasn't by cocteau twins then people would just judge it on its merits and generally consider it to be a good album. but cos we know how their sound developed and, in most people's eyes apparently, improved.. a lot of people seem to regard garlands as a bad album.
forget who it's by for a second and just listen to how good it is! :)

I loved the live versions with Mark Clifford...Orbital made some great job with Fruitopia, and Robin Guthrie's remix of Mandalay's Flowers Bloom is gorgeous...So I'm not at all against the idea of mixing Cocteaus songs and Liz's voice is made to be sampled and remixed and resampled (I think I would love even her shower singing!!!)..Ok, there's Underwater but nobody can be sure that she really approved it!...

Otherness..in my opinion is amazing...but to each his own. Other styles or remixes could be done. Otherness is more of a reworking rather than a remix really.

Garlands is a great album..not my favorite though. I like head over heels from that Cocteau era more myself...but Garlands is very good. I agree with you...although I don't play it often...LMAO
