....comeing back from getting my latest tattoo(three braches from the cover of twinlights) i got stuck in a major traffic snarl...spent almost fourty minutes barely moveing...i used the time to listen to victiorialand for the first time since at least last winter.
now...i've always thought it was really beautiful...but it always seemed a tad depressing also....

well everything changed today....it seemed to revel itsself for the first time! i got totally sucked into the world in that record....

ok..my question is,...it seems to me that victorialand is an either or...kind of record.....i know how i find it now...surreal and misty /sunlite....how do you guys feel about it? has it ever changed like that...mixed feelings? love it..always have...i guess i just want talk about it...carry on...........

I agree with you Zed..it's warm and crispy cool all at the same time...it definitely feels wintery to me though...fluffy tufts reminds me of a cold day with snow on the ground with huge white clouds and the sunlight reflecting back up on them from the snow....ahhhh

sorry for not responding properly. Okay, I think I am a rare breed in that I have never found any CT depressing. Although Liz's ability to express of sadness allows me to wallow in depression at times, I don't find the music itself to be so. I initially came to love it because in my darkest moment, I was able to relax and I felt better afterwards (BBK). I know this one mother who uses Victorialand to put her 7-year-old son to bed every night, and he's the happiest, most carefree child I have met. I guess it depends on who is listening to it and where they are at that time. Soon, I am going to post something completely contradictory to my statement here, just watch.

I play V'land only in xmas time. I find in it a perfect connection with CT and Christmas. I don't think it's depressing.... Just think that when i play it in another time of the year, i feel something wrong with my feelings. Like wear moonboot on a beach LOL.
Btw V'land is amazing, when it find me in the right mood, it's the best CT album to have a mindtrip with... I feel like Alice in Wonderland but i don't want to wake up!:)

I'd reckon this could function as a rather fab "gentle sex"-album kind of thing. Anyone care to profess, seeing as I lack the experience (both in overall and specifically, and I'm not hard-pressed to commit to that, it's practically decisive) ?

Materially, I don't even own it... yet. Nice cover, though.

Victorialand was my first...I did spend considerable time in the rainy days of cold spring in college listening to it..some studying, othertimes in bed with someone...I think this album is truly magical. I had it for a long time before I thought to seek out more of CT...I really don't know why....now I only listen to it every now and then, but it is always pleasant...I still think Whales Tails is amazing, her vocal...Oomingmak too...

........thanks scott, that's the stuff i'm looking for!...i'm looking for the "why's" that make a person feel about this way or that about a piece of music. it's SUPPOSED to make you feel. i wanna know "what" it's doing...i found the change in my perception of victorialand astonishing...opening up the music in ways that i hadn't previously known...anyone else?

Phil.......

come on man....what's VL mean to you? you have any thoughts on it? to me it seems like a really personal album...it maybe the ultimate cocteau disc. in the sense that it was a road that could have been taken instead of the one that they eventually did.
do you think that there was a chance that robin and liz could have remained a duo.......no offence to simon in the least....
it was just the two of them and a tape machine for a while...

welll..... anyone?

What does VL mean to me? Hmm...

Late November, late afternoon, just as night-time falls like a huge, black blanket....grey skies.....December tides in Dorset, waves crashing onto a pebble beach.....icebergs........ploughed fields in autumn, rooks circling and calling.

There's an end of year theme here, n'est pas?

Not one of my favourite three albums, but still a good listen.

It's me floating on a fluffy cloud, touching the wool it is made of, flaoting in a black sea, enjoying its iced coldness and feeling the raindrops on my face...a siren's song...

I used to take a lot of pictures back in my more 'gothic' days, and I'll always associate Victorialand with that particular time. I shot a lot of pictures of my best friend, David, and we used Victorialand as the soundtrack of those photo shoots, not to mention the sex that would often be a result of said shoots! :D But for me, I'll always associate Victorialand with feelings of a deep, spiritual friendship with the one person on earth that I've ever know personally who loved CT as much as I did. For me, Victorialand will always bring back those wonderful, magical feelings not only of that wonderful relationship, but of the time of really discovering the Cocteau Twins in general. During that time, there was still the wonderful anticipation of waiting for the next album, as well as the search and discovery of CT songs that I had not yet heard because, unfortunately, you can only hear Cocteau Twins for the first time... once.

..........LuciB.........nice story! yeah...it seems there are a bunch of Vland stories out there...i'm delighted to here some of the poetry that this particular album seens to bring out in people. there is a related post by me in the "fav song for the moment" thread...

Has anyone ever looked at that glorious cover for a prolonged period of time, and noticed a freaky pair of eyes staring back? I did years ago once or twice, but now I don't see them at all! (No, I wasn't looking at the CD, so it wasn't just mine reflecting back off of the plastic!...). Just curious.
