Listening again to It'll End In Tears for the first time in ages.

What beautiful singing on Another Day. One of Liz's best, along with Song To The Siren ? I liked the Roy Harper original but Liz sings it like it was truly written for her. I can't think of anything that would improve it.

And then Dreams Made Flesh - the wonder that is Lisa Gerrard !

From days when 4AD knew what it was doing. Days gone. Long gone.

the kettle's on,the sun has gone,another day
she offers me,tibetan tea,on a flower tray
she's at the door, she wants to score, she really needs to say:
'i once loved you a long time ago,you know
but i couldn't let myself go
not knowing what on earth there was to know
but i wish that i had,'cause it makes me so sad
that i never had one of your children'
across the room, inside a tomb,a chance is waxed and waned
the night is young, why are we so hung-up,in each other's chains
i must take her,i must make her, while the dove domains
see the juice run as she flies
run my wings under her sighs
as the flames of eternity rise
to lick us with the first born lash of dawn
oh really my dear,i can't see what we fear
with ourselves,sat here between us
and at the door,we can't say more, than just another day
without a sound,i turn around,and i walk away

If you haven't heard it (and can be bothered) there is an awesome version of this track on :
Flashes From The Archives Of Oblivion.
A live Roy Harper CD/LP from the mid 70's.
I prefer it to his original and the TMC version.
Either way it's a great song.

"This is a song i wrote for Solveig. I was in love with her for so long, but we were always in different worlds. She's such a beautiful woman and a real soul. She's the one woman from my virtual youth who has kept in touch with me. I'll always love her, even though we're ships in the night."

Ah Another Day... what a beautiful song! I'll also admit that I like it much better than Song for a Siren

i agree - possibly liz's most perfect track.

there is a version of 'another day' by peter gabriel and kate bush - the copy i downloaded is very poor quality, but interesting listening

so exquisite......probably the lovliest of all.

and quite the complex melody.

thanks for reminding me to pull TMC from my CD stacks.

this release was the turning point for many of us who caught the CT wave in the '90s.

Never liked song to the siren but Another day has always been a song that makes me cry, and that's before I even knew what she said.

Yes, so achingly beautiful Another Day is. One of the few truly perfect This Mortal Coil songs

I listen to it just to cry, call myself a sap, and repeat.

hey Muse, what do want to cry for ?

and why would you call yourself "a trench (usually covered or zigzag) by which approach is made towards a hostile position" ?

hehe.

Why would I want to cry? Because crying to that song makes me feel good.

I guess.

Maybe it's because I'm hopelessly Gothic (handstapleforehead)...

It's that disembodied child's voice of hers, at age eighteen, that really drives that song home. It works so well in this context.

For more gems of Roy Harper's output, may I recommend the albums "Bullinamingvase" and the masterpiece "HQ".

Indeed you may. And I'll throw in "Flat Baroque and Berserk" too.
