It always upsets me when I see reviews in magazines and books that reference "swirling keyboards" as a huge part of the CT sound, when in reality you and Robin did most of your work on bass/guitars.

Having said that, besides the obvious songs that include piano/keyboards, I always wondered what was being played during the middle of 'cicely' (sounds like some kind of organ) and 'pink orange red' (sounds like a vocal chorus WAY deep in the mix).

Cheer,

Christopher

Yeah, I think reviewers on the whole tend to miss the point or generally don't understand music...just look at 'pop' music.heh...what annoys me most is the ones who always have to make gradiose statements about the historical blah blah blah...seemingly in some fantasy, at least I know mine is a fantasy, not a grand take on history....

I was ALWAYS enthralled my the incredible sound textures SR&RG did w/out keyboards...I was just listening to the end of Those Eyes, That Mouth as a good example of that...but the one I've debated for some time is BBK(the song). Now, for the first 10sec you have the harpsicord loop and drums...then it sounds to me like that a guitar track(not keyboard) enters with the bass and vocals. It is through some envelope filter or something with the attack removed somehow...but I swear it is guitar...and not the fuzz guitar that enters about 0:27, on top of that...amazes me every time...then there is Liz's vocal, enough to push me over the edge.

Scott,

Yeah!! I love the way that guitar swells in and out (several times) during the first half of Blue Bell Knoll. That is amazing, and beautiful. Also (and I forgot to ask Simon about this) the menacing bursts that occur during Great Spangled Fritillary sound like a guitar effect to me.

Cheers,

Christopher
