the two most expensive items i can think of off the top of my head are - the blue bell knoll DAT which i paid $116 for in 1999 and i paid $50 for my kaleidoscope in 1997.
The Lillies-"And David Seaman Will Be Very Disappointed About That..." $60 (I've since seen it for sale for $10!! )

I haven't tried to pick up anything recently (like in the last two years), and evidently the demand has certainly gone up.
I paid $15 for that large Pearly Dewdrops poster (1986 I bought it).
I paid $35 for 'snow' red vinyl 7"
I paid $30 for the melody maker comp CD with 'the high monkey monk'
The most I've paid...'lilliput', close to $150.

i'm waiting to hear from someone out there who got suckered into buying a copy of the snow cd single fo $100. who are these ebay discs going to then if no one is gonna fess up? ;)
Not me..hehe...I wouldn't even buy a copy at normal price myself...I'm not much for the rarities...not with this demand....now I know WHO is looking on ebay...why bother? I would like the bootlegs and such...but best I can hope for is a local record store(not likely) or a copy(serious labor required)....
Most I spent was $50 for the box set...the common US version...
One of the most memorable days...
walked into used CD shop,
checked the "singles" section,
proceeded to snag: Snow, Evangeline, and Fuel's "Timeless" e.p.
for $1.99 each!!
Couldn't believe it!
Best deal ever :D
Errrrmmm - this is almost embarrassing ... $340 for a Japanese box set and a copy of Lilliput signed by CT, $200 for Night Must fall (first time I'd even heard of it), $300 for a kaleidoscope, $150 for a Pink Opaque white label, Athol Brose was expensive as well but I've lost the e-mail with the price on. And there are probably another 15 or 20 in the 50 - 100 range!
What can I say...I was young, obsessed, earning good money and not married! And they all pale compared to what I paid for an original copy of Bjorks first LP!
FYI, the Japanese box set is getting more expensive here in Japan recently. Still not as rare as it costs elsewhere, but I've seen them go on Yahoo auctions Japan for over 20,000 yen (~$170). I feel lucky to have bough mine a few years ago for about 7,000 yen. :-)
I know this is not a "best bargain you ever stumbled across" thread, but I've made out well here buying records in shops that were drastically underpriced because the owners didn't realize the value of non-Japanese items. One day I was looking through the 7" single bargain bin and I found "Night Must Fall" for less than 1,000 yen (~$8). I bought it not knowing what it was and only later through this forum learned of its rarity.
An extreme example is when I found a fully signed copy of the Smiths "Hand in Glove" single in a bargain bin for 800 yen ($6.50)!

$60 for "unrealised dreams". not bad i think considering that i've only ever seen it on eBay a few times before it got pulled. otherwise i haven't really gone overboard.

Jap, Athol Brose for $160 and the Canadian A Taste Of Milk & Kisses for $75. But I can safely say that everything else has been bought for reasonable sums so I don't feel guilty.
