Just can't. Would cost too much!
But I'm in a church right now, lighting candles, praying all the Saints to make me rich before May or to make Cocteau Twins play other gigs in Europe!
(I could even start to believe if any of those two happened!)

Not a chance but seeing the announcement made me think really hard about it. I really want to see CT play again! Any word on other shows after that? The one show I saw was one of the best concerts of my life! (At the Mayan in Los Angeles, Milk and Honey tour, I think?)

I'll definitely be there. The only downside is that I called my best friend in Michigan when I saw the news and left him a message. He got into CT thru me about four years ago. He regrets never having seen them and frequently asks me to explain how they were when I saw them in 1990 and 1996. When he called me back, the first thing I heard was an anguished scream: he's going to be Japan visiting his girlfriend then.

I'm considering going out there, but as many others have said, this will be contingent on their playing other shows besides Coachella. I'd prefer to see tham at a proper CT show in an indoor venue (preferably not in the desert), but everytime I decide I can't get out to California, I begin secretly scheming how it will all work out....

Augghh! Can't decide!

On the one hand:
*there's nothing really standing in my way. The money's a bit of a stretch (I've looked at plane fare, hotels, & rental car, and it would probably end up at least $1000). But if I wanted to I could do it.
*who knows if the opportunity to see them ever comes up again? It's possible, but I wouldn't stake my life on it.
*I've always wanted to visit California

On the other hand:
*I would have to go it alone (no friends who like CT or festivals enough to go), and I don't relish that at all.
*I hate festivals and outdoor concerts in general - I haven't been to one in probably 10 years. (I'm a bit of a social phobe and I hate crowds)
*They may play an hour or so, tops.
*What are the chances of little 'ol 5'2" me getting close enough to the stage to really get a good look?
*What if I plunk down 1000 clams and they cancel?
*I did get to see them one time, on the M&K tour, so it's not like this is my only chance
*I can't really afford to stay more than a couple of days, so it's not like I could do much sightseeing.

So I'm asking myself - is it all worth it? I'm very conflicted. If I lived, say, within a day's drive of the venue , I'm sure I would do it.

Anyone else feel the same? It's really bothering me. I literally lay awake last night thinking about it. :toilet:

On the other hand:
*I would have to go it alone (no friends who like CT or festivals enough to go), and I don't relish that at all. but all of us will be there, so you don;t have to stand alone. you can stand with the other Faithful Fans. :)

*They may play an hour or so, tops. better than nothing, in my opinion....

*What are the chances of little 'ol 5'2" me getting close enough to the stage to really get a good look? one word -- binoculars! i have a couple of pair of small, but sturdy and good, binoculars that i plan on bringing. you'll see... and hear!

*What if I plunk down 1000 clams and they cancel? i was under the impression this is a done deal. i mean, if the announcements been made public, then CT are now under contract.

i am going, and i will put up with any inconvenience for this.... sure, it'll be hot, and sweaty, and crowded. but the chance to see CT play live again.... it's worth it. it's so worth it to me....

ok one problem, their set won't be too long. They are not even headlining for CHRIST's SAKE!

.....hey, no problem here.

since they are NOT headlining, CT may very well be performing earlier in the day or evening, and to a slightly "smaller" crowd.

which means i can then escape the hot desert crowds early and head back to town a for nice mint julip, a quick dip in the pool and an evening of Saturday night clubbing in gay old Palm Springs.

there's also several casinos in the area, i hear.

frankly, i have no use for Coldplay (or even Bauhaus) in a festival situ.

why leave less than an exquisite taste in your mouth.....after CT play i'll be racing to the parking lot.

not only is this a great opportunity to see cocteau twins again but it's also another opportunity to mix and mingle with other fans. LA and surrounding areas have so much to offer, not to mention the great company. i'm in this for the long haul and after an experience like cocteaufest you know what it's all about to surround yourself with other cocteau fans. it's going to be wonderful.

i can hardly wait to see you again and give you a great big hug, sweetie.

....and none too soon, either!

yes, lightning does strike twice in the same place!

let's brainstorm ways we can let every CT fan attending Coachella know about our blessed, and happy cyber-palace here and the upcoming UK COCTEAUfest.

we'll be like a new kind of evangelical:

spreading the good word, and at the very same time bathe in the many pleasures of their music and our gracious company.

have you checked out the Saturday lodging that PJK and myself are staying at? (www.palmcourt-inn.com) it's quite a reasonable deal money-wise and it would be so sweet to have you nearby.

thanks for the ip on the inn, fred. i'll look into that. i think at some point i should do another thread with travel and accomodation information for people attending coachella. i'll be sure to add the palm court to the list.

can't wait to see you again either, we're definitely going to have to advertise our lovely fest to all the coachella goers, they won't know what hit em.

Without traffic (i.e., not after work/Friday night) LA-Palm Springs is about a 2-hour drive (~110 miles). Palm Springs to Indio/Coachella is 25 miles, ~30-minute drive without traffic

Well I like the twins but I'm not even going to spend $70 to see a band in Orlando let alone buying a round trip airfare ticket to Cali from Florida, get a hotel room, rental car and concert ticket to see ANY band. Hell I could have seen Madonna for $300 in So Florida but I can't justify that kind a money for a concert and I really like Madonna.

So I'll wait for them to come to Florida if not the southeast area with in driving distance. And if they don't and this is a single one time only show that I'll miss then so be it.

But I hope those that are going have fun and enjoy the show and it's all that this reunion hype has made it into. :)

This will be old hat to Californians who are already familiar with the area, but for folks from other parts of the world who are making the trip, make sure you allow some extra time to drink in the beautiful surroundings. Last week I was on a business trip to California. We flew into Palm Springs and stayed in La Quinta (right near Coachella Road!) - and I must say, coming from New England, that the landscape blew me away - the area around there was incredible - we drove up to Joshua Tree National Park which was amazing to see. I will offer the unsolicited opinion that Palm Springs itself didn't impress me much, it seemed to be full of geriatrics and rich fuckers, but otherwise it was amazing out there. The land is just bigger, grander, everything is on a larger scale.

There was this amazing windmill farm by the side of the highway off I10 which heads west from Palm Springs to Los Angeles - there were tons of these windmills, each one maybe 50 feet high, they were incredible to see. I wonder how much electricity they actually generate?

E-Lo
Feb-18-05, 2:03 PM
Coolio, glad you enjoyed your trip to the area Matty. Those amazing windmills actually generate enough power to provide electricity to Palm Springs and the entire Coachella valley. They look so graceful covering the San Gorgonio Pass.

Yes plenty of rich old fuckas in PS, but I do adore the cosmic mid-century Frey, Neutra, and Lautner architecture :)

mattadore
Feb-18-05, 2:05 PM
I probably needed to give Palm Springs more of a chance, but I was so intrigued by the outlying areas like Black Rock Canyon, Twenty-Nine Palms highway, Joshua Tree, and such... for some reason when I'm in the desert I really just like to drive around mostly and trip out on stuff. :)

yes, but only for that Saturday night (which i think is the case for many of us here.)

Friday night i'll be in LA for Club Violaine, i'm absolutely certain.

Angel, maybe you should find a way into LA for that event too, eh?

i'll likely have more real "fun" there than at Coachella.....if only because of the nightime ambience and the CT dancing and the smaller, more intimate gathering of CT devotees.

really, i have no idea how i'm gonna cope with a crowd of 50,000 at Coachella.

most likely, i'll just grin and bare it (all for that special luxury of saying, "yes, i was really there."

it's the whole pilgrimage thang, i guess.

Hello Serpentine, the translation is very clear. And as you said I also speak english, so don't worry. And yes, sometimes it's hard to find other C.T. fans in the neighborhood, so it's great to find places like this to hang out with you guys. In fact one of my dreams is to listen to my favorite C.T. songs with some company who really enjoy them and talk bout it. Well, maybe someday...

Imagínate a Simon cantando The Itchy Globo Blow ...jeje.

Yo he conseguido mi colección gracias a internet.

Personalmente, odio comprar via internet.

Saludos
