first impressions:

okay, is this band CT lite (a la Sugar Plant)
or a really poor imitation of the real thing?

i would hope Robin's asking price as their producer would make this kind of association at least worth his time and/or fine reputation.

will he ably coax the frail songstress to sing on key for him, maybe?

i dunno about this.

me, i would advise against (unless, of course, he is aiming for a more radical kind of make-over than the present song samples suggest.)

will i live to regret this blunt opinion?

(yeah, probably....but fuck it.)

this mature age has gotta have at least a few nice perks, thank you.

I wish I had more time right now to listen to all audio samples, but the few I've listened to tell me that there is nothing similar to CT. Why should it be actually? The voice is Dido-like (that's OK) and there is an guitar-atmosphere carrying soft melodies. It is enough for me to say that I like it and to promise listening to the other samples, but till now there is nothing that could enchant me...

Well, they say imitation is the best form of flattery. ;) They def. have a CT thing going on there, to deny it would be like an interpol fan not seeing the Joy Division/Chameleons comparisons.

I'll have to take a further listen, but at first impression, it sounds good.

i think the interpol/joy division comparison is a real load of crap. i think that's what reviewers who hadn't really listened to the band said about themm.... but that is just me D:

It sounds to me like someone needs to join bts' training academy.

Well, yes there are lots of those bandwagoneers out there; however, this listener and many others who know WTF they're talking about see the similarities as well. HELL, they even look like Joy Division. I'm not saying they're identical, but there's clearly a derivative sound, Chameleons too, moreso the latter IMO. I realize the comparisons get old after a while and interpol are a great band in their own right (one of the few newer bands I actually like), but the denial of their sound to post-punk of yesteryear is equally old.

I was speaking of the universal tradition of "being the last to know".

For her, yes. For him, no.
You were onto something with New Girl tho.

sounds like they already have been, non?

Either that or a very big CT fan pressed the Record button.

Mind you, there's often a nice big difference between what artists do for themselves and what they do for others, viz. Eno's Talking Heads productions and No New York stuff so I dunno.

Isn't that name a bit self-consciously 4AD?

I mean - Colour(box) and (AR) Kane collaborated, and the latter were produced by Robin Guthrie on one EP.

So who's next?

Wolfgang Can Dance?

Dif Mortal Coil?
