Simon, after reading the back-and-forth interview at logo magazine, I feel compelled to make this one statement....
You as well as anyone know how much the music 'industry' is more about what some guy in a suit thinks will sell (and if you pound it into the heads of enough people through radio and MTV, it will:rolleyes: ) and less about finding real talent. From reading the article, I am even more confirmed in the feeling that Bella Union seeks to break that trend! Don't give in to the 'shmooz' factor! It is only through change that change can happen. I feel that with time, Bella Union could become a force to be reckoned with, even if it's just from the amount of people who seek to be produced by you. You even said yourself that these days, more and more demos are flooding your mailbox! I can see Bella Union becoming the 'artists' label! But at the very least, the more that labels resist the 'industry standard', the more it can become standard for the industry to seek real talent. It doesn't have to be about making millions. LOTS of artists would be happy just to make a living!;)
I believe in what you're doing! Thanks for having the guts to do it. :)
(although I don't get into Frank Zappa, he once made a comment in an interview which said basically this- If a pop musician sells 50,000 copies, he's worthless. If an opera artist sold 50,000 copies, he'd be a God.)
