I haven't been able to take Tram's "A Kind Of Closure" out of my player. Great album!!
Did anyone see them live w/ Simon on piano?

I think Simon may have.

What did Simon think? Was he excited to see Simon playing live again? :D

Yeah...apparently he waited for hours to get his own autograph, only to find that he told himself to fuck off when he got to the front of the queue.

Beside himself with grief, he was and understandably so.

robin i know has told autograph seekers to fuck off and liz has been known to shun off a fan or two.........but simon would never do that........especially not to himself!

:D

Like most bass-playing Tottenham fans, we're just unpredictable under pressure, doll.

Anyway, don't spoil my silliness....I get jumped on when I try to be serious.

I realize this is straying a bit from the thread, but...
Please tell me you are joking Leesa.
I cannot even begin to tell you how disheartening it would be to think that Robin or Liz would/could ever be like that!
I would have fainted if she so much as scowled at me.

I realize the whole shy thing they have going on, but knowing the passivity of most CT fans, that's just...I don't have words...

I have personal friends in two internationally successful bands (names irrelevant) who go out of their way to give autographs and tell the fans thank you for supporting them so that they get paid millions to do what they love. I can't imagine them tellling a fan to fuck off. Fuck, they pay their fucking bills.

Now I am just disturbed.

Brittany..................so sorry to say, but yeah.
it's true. Robin has routinely told fans to fuck off. in his defense,
it's more likely a defense in it's self. he is not by nature a public peson....trust me, crowds of people , or even the odd person or two adoreing you out of no where can be disturbing if you have few interal defenses.
as for liz...well you know as well i do, that she's really shy.
though both can be quite gracious, they remain private people at heart.

don't be to upset. they're just peole like you. or me.

please take this all with a grain of salt....i'm no great friend of either of them...and in the end i've got no business talking about them in a personal capacity........Liz, Robin, if you read this....
no offense was intended.

well. me three cents.

Z.

well, you have a point that I didn't consider. Still, as sensitive as I am, I am sooo glad they were nice to me, I couldn't have handled their defense mechanism.

And Lees, nothing compares. I just miss it lately. I want my butterflies back.

My two cents...I have had three experiences being around members of the band.

(1) After the Berkeley HOLV show I attended, Simon came outside behind the auditorium and was kind enough to talk fairly extensively with me and a small batch of fans. Twenty minutes later when Robin came out, he was kind enough to shake my hand and provide an autograph. When Liz came out, she was much more guarded, but how can you blame her...she was trying to get LucyBelle safely into their vehicle to go back to their hotel. She smiled and tried to be pleasant, I think. [SIDE NOTE: I'll never forget how stunned I was to discover that 9O% of the other fans that I waited outside with did not know much at all about CT ("how many singers are there???")...hardly a one recognized Robin or Simon's presence initially.]

(2) A couple of years ago, I made my only trip (so far) to London, and as I was staying in Richmond just a couple of miles away from September Sound, I decided to go see if I could find the studio. I hiked on foot, found it, and entered the grounds, knocked on the front door, and was gently turned away by Peter (quite understandably). However, as I walked towards the gate to exit, Robin drives up in a van, gets out, and graciously invites me to come inside. He spent nearly an hour showing me around and talking about his plans (mainly about his new project, Violet Indiana). Simon was busy (recording a band), but took a moment out to say 'hi' and take a picture with me and Robin. I did not take any other pictures, nor did I ask for an autograph. I thanked everyone for letting me intrude, and Robin was kind enough to give me a PILE of CD's before I left. (This appoximates our trip to the Bella Union inventory closet - "Oh this CD is good, take it. Right, here's a copy of the CT BBC sessions...And this one here is my absolute favorite so far, here you go...Oh, you have this already? Well, this band The Czars is fantastic, this is getting released next spring, so have this...").

(3) Robin was again gracious and smiling when I thanked him for the great show after I saw Violet Indiana in San Francisco. That's all I wanted to do, thank him...but see, some guy standing next to me asked Robin to read his fucking journal of poetry, right then and there!!!....so you can see how Robin might get a bit short with the occasional fan.

Thanks for being kind to this fan, Robin and Simon:)

Now THAT is what I am talking about, Crushed! That is the type of people that I assumed CT were. What a fabulous story. I cannot tell you how green with envy I am! But at the same time, I would be too scared to show up at their studio, so it'll never happen to me. My dream is to just bump into them whilst walking around Hyde Park (NOT!). Maybe this summer...

Leesa, you are my idol. I won't go into the whole gushing thing, like I usually do. I am speechless... for once.

My picture with Simon and Robin is on plain old film...perhaps I'll be able to post it eventually, if I ever get off my duff and convert it!!!

I have other photos I took of September Sound...mainly from outside the grounds: from the lovely wooded street it's on, from the bridge that's right there, of the little walking bridge (mmmender had a couple of photos above), and of the huge park across the river. It wasn't a very well planned photo shoot, though....I was still as high as a kite from the way-better-than-anticipated visit, and just kind of floating around shooting randomly, and thinking "wow, that was wonderful!!!".

It's always great when a place turns out to be better than you ever imagined (then again, they moved the studio just down river a few short months later).

I fear I did overstep my bounds as a fan once. I had heard that Simon was coming to San Jose to record Lisa Dewey, and I emailed him to invite him to lunch while he was out. No reply, and I don't blame him. I could be a stalker;) Besides, who wants to have lunch with a thirty-something random stranger??

Hey mmmender, how did you first hook up with them?

Another side note on anti-social behavior. Did anyone see that interview Robin did on MTV on 120 minutes for FCC (of coarse you did, what I am, stupid?) Anyway, at some parts, Robin was down right rude to the guy interviewing him, but that guy was a moron anyway, so I can't blame him. That interview was pretty funny though, something about baking Robin a cake the next time he came on the show?

I have the interview on this compilation tape I have, which I have watched so many times that it is beginning to get fuzzy. It has all the videos they ever made, a bunch of live performances, the performance they did on Jay Leno, plus her thing with This Mortal Coil. Does anyone know where I can get another copy of this? I bought it from some guy a couple of years ago. Does anyone else out there have this compilation?

Heh...yeah, that cracked me up Iceblink...that interview, the dude was a moron indeed....all the tiresome questions esp. about Liz's use of words ....but when he said about the interview itself, I hope it wasn't too painful, and Robin goes, "Well it was"..I lost it laughing. Not at Robin really, just the whole dumb MTV interview and the way he slagged it off.....
priceless

anyway, mmmender has that comp. on a VCD...mail her to get it...
