best singles

ok, i've been meaning to post this for bloody ages.. and i finally remembered today! tell you why in a min...

anyway, i came across this book recently called (i think) 'this is uncool: the 500 greatest singles since punk and disco'.
i opened the book and it fell open (i swear) at a page with an entry for cocteau twins! which is obviously good news. bad news is that the author only lists one of their songs in his top 500 for the given period (sort of late 70s, and 80s i think), plus the chosen track is pearly dewdrops' drops which i know is not some people's fave (stand up and be counted, young ms. mmmender!).

other interesting fact is that bands like the smiths have 6 entries (though i'm not complaining).
and the reason why i'm posting this now is cos i came across that book again just today. but this time it didn't fall open at the same page.

life is full of mystery... ;)

anyone else wanna comment.. or post anything about their fave singles of the last decade or three? if only to make this post worthwhile, y'know? lol!

the book isn't done that way, with the tracks numbered. it's just done in year sections.. or groups of years, i can't remember.. with tracks selected from each period.

either way it is definitely wrong to have only one ct track there, but even given that fact, i also think he picked the wrong one!!

at least the book seems to know when it's being looked at by a ct fan. :)

Wow, bands that made great singles in that period? Where would you end? Bands who made average albums released some great singles - Generation X, Magazine, Gang Of Four, Mekons, X Ray Spex, The Fall, 999, Jonathan Richman, that's before I get to my fave bands.
