Call me brutish and uncultured if you so wish, Nannookess Of The North ('cos you do anyway), but what is a "blunt" when it's at home?

has to be the smell of napalm in the mornin', (crass I know, sorry)

If it ain't the fragrant herb of life pictured above then it's gotta be 'ole reliable - Sandalwood. A combination of the two has bought me much inspiration.

what i'd like to contemplate is .........what would cocteau twins music have sounded like without the use of drugs????? would there be a guthrie sound?

E-Lo
Dec-11-02, 2:12 PM
Methinks they would not have sounded as good without the pills, powder, and who-knows-what they used to take as CT. Case in point, I paid a visit with a friend to September Sound in 1999 and visited Simon. We were talking about live performances and I told him my favorite CT show was in Los Angeles during HOLV with Lush. He didn't remember even remember playing with them or that show!?! LOL

you saying that drugs don't affect/influence your sound/state of mind/ability or in/decrease awareness?

mmmender
Dec-11-02, 2:32 PM
(more from the mondo 2000 interview)

simon: "you can take all drugs at once, and that should be just about enough. that's how i feel about ecstasy. they are brilliant the first few times you take 'em. but then...."

robin: "you know, i mean, that was my natural state, and i was gonna get fucked up. great, i just can't do that. i can't do it. i mean, i never had been able to try it only once. insanity, repeating it, expecting it to be different.

robin: "i'd take anything really. i mean, cocaine was my drug of choice. but i would just take anything after a while"

ok i know this was a few posts back.. but i just wanted to say, in my defence, that i was just trying to make a daft play on the word 'sandelwood' and i resorted to a star wars reference for it.
at least that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it! ;)

i feel the same about the whole 'star bores trilogy' thing. er, that's a trilogy with six parts, btw...

Heh, I'm not sure which post you were responding too...but even if I did...what are you talking about? :) I mean, amidst the terms I think I see what you were getting at..but it is a bit vague :)

Ok, so smells with CT...I too don't burn incense. The smoke isn't so pleasant in my sinus region..I like smells alot though(including those here named ;) ), and I like incense at first, or after it settles(Nag Champa is a good one for the lingering effect)....but with smells, I'd have to say Jasmine is my favorite smell. And nothing like the actual Jasmine flower in its peak bloom. I drink a fair bit of Jasmine tea as well. While I hadn't considered any link to CT, the pleasant feeling I have with both does coincide.
I'd have to say I don't much care for the traditional woody smells, there are times and moments where they click...mostly outside on a cool fall day...but all in all I wouldn't want them around.

mmmender
Dec-11-02, 10:17 PM
scott, believe it or not.......my fave is jasmine as well, ask ian, he'll back me up!!

for the record - in that post of mine that you quoted i was replying to E-Lo's thread.

cool!

well it is quite a stunning smell.
that with CT in the background would be either very relaxing or erotic...otherworldly for sure....for some reason I get Victorialand on the brain most with this smell...that is only an immediate association, haven't given any thought to CT phases and smells...yet.

oh and mmmender, hehe...that's cool, I was just joking...as it seemed like a cryptic multiple choice question or something...anyhow, my response to E-LO post would be conclusion:
a) better music
b) memory loss :)

damn....hate it when that happens....

I think that all of us here have got to admit that most of what we creatively have done was influenced by some sort of drug.

Many of us here have said what our selected drug is....marijuana seems really popular. it's like asking would leesa's poems and webdesigns be as good as they are if she was not a pothead? would my lyrics or thoughts shared be any good if i did not pop pills? (don't about mine being any good, I've been told so but I don't know)

I've been sober...not even caffiene and created the most amazing poetry. then again I have been drunk and I can reach lower levels of conscienceness and pull out more.

then there are times when I have popped too many pills and I think :Write what I am feeling which is really deep or laydown and feel this fabulous feeling....usually I say "fuck it, I can write it down later." of course I never remember.

Well here is my opinion:
I definitely don't hold to the 'all or nothing' argument. Our minds are constantly affected by chemical processes. I think people underestimate the effect of legal drugs and even various foods(remember Partially Hydrogenated Oils? :) ). If someone says they are against drugs, I laugh and ask if that entails the wide array of over the counter and/or perscription drugs. It often doesn't...

Drugs may put a spin on things, ultimately they can't replace our real experiences. But if you feel something, and then you take some kinda of mind altering drug, it isn't like your experience is any less real. But in a desire to replace our real experiences with a drug induced fantasy, we can numb or disconnect ourselves in such a way that it thwarts are mental creative processes. So I think it all suffers from over doing it(with any drug), but there is perhaps a balance. I don't think any drug should be done to a large extent all of the time. The one I abuse most like that is Caffeine. I have found a greater degree of moderation now.

But to consider an example of a drug having a good effect. Certain things, like routine work requiring highly detailed error free work can likely suffer from pot...but sometimes work doesn't need that kind of concentration but rather patience and thougtfulness, pot seems to help that. I think sometimes people catch things they wouldn't have or spend more time trying to get a deeper understanding of something.....but it is likely balanced out by following up what was done by reviewing it later while sober.

to set the record straight - i'm no longer a "pot head" but i will admit to being a heavy duty pot smoker quite a few years back. and i'd like to think that my websites are just as good with less drugs circulating through my system. and to me, my poetry has improved since i'm not as clouded.

i think this is a pretty big generalisation. not everyone pops pills or smokes up.. or even does the other drugs that people often don't define as drugs, like alcohol, caffeine etc.

and even though i don't include myself in that group (the non-indulgers), i know from experience that if i create something after a few drinks or whatever, it nearly always seems great to me at the time, but more often than not when i look at it later in the cold, sober light of day i realise that it's just crap.

maybe it does work for some people, i don't know.

i'm also inclined to think that doing things like designing websites would simply be a lot harder if you're pissed/stoned, regardless of how creative you feel at the time!

Uh...yeah, well you wanna list off your music collection ? :) Certainly not all, Liz didn't do the drugs here discussed as far as I know, though I haven't heard if she used caffeine or alcohol.

But I agree with you, except it seem people always associate drug use with excessive drug use...not everyone is hoplessly unable to moderate...those who are should likely not use them. Surely you've done something and had just a drink and benefitted from the mental loosening effect or whatever.

Also, to benefit from something and to believe you NEED it to do what it is you do on it, to me, delineates addiction. Sometimes it is easy to blur I suppose, denial is a powerful effect. Anyway, I always think excess is bad, knowing when it is excess is the trick.
One persons lack of control isn't another person's problem...I've never been inclined to drink alot, so I enjoy a glass of wine or beer on occasion, probably a few times a week.

I avoid things illegal because I don't think it is worth having my life ruined by the totalitarian government that overlords the country I live in.

amen to that and I got a witness!

Leesa no hard feeling but you always seem to add in that a little pot wouldn't hurt in some of your previous posts.

And yes the pills that I pop are all prescribed! and to top it all of I am taking a regular dosage. That is why I never ever take as many as the Dr. tells me to on the daily basis but when I do I find it beneficial and tonight I shall make whiskey my best friend, sorry leesa I hate canadian whiskey would rather have jim or jack.

any way, with that said all the the feels laid to rest I wish you all happiness over this weekend and peace...I have so much homework it is not funny. But tonight......tonight its me and Jim mano a mano.
chin up leesa you are incredibly beautiful devestatingly talented and I envy you! ;)

Last time I was in a church was in August when I was in Cornwall. I wandered into a tiny church in a place near St Michael's Mount.

While I'm a screaming atheist (well, not screaming...I do it with menacing looks and sub-sonic mumbles and grunts), it was charmingly peaceful, as most religious buildings are.

Having answered the 'phone twice during my typing of this, my train of thought has been derailed, so I'll just say this:

Fold tab 'A' to meet tab 'B', ensuring that the upper flange is located into slot 'D' to show the name "Gabor" along the top edge.

Thank you for listening (rattles a collection tin under your nose)

I don't know that I have have burned incense in manner for CTmusic. I'm a virgin at that. I would burn lavendar and wear green walnut cologne if I wanted to make a thing of it. "Hhhhmmm....I want that box set available and when it is here for Americans I'll treat that ocassion with due respect."
