Im pretty sure everyone knows that Garlands,Head over Heals,Treasure & Victorialand have been remastered and are due for release in february here in the UK, but does anyone have any actual info on them? They were rumoured to have new artwork etc but ive never saw anymore details, amazon.co.uk has them listed for preorder, but with no track listings etc, it would be brilliant if treasure had the aikea guinea ep worked into it, much like head over heals had sunburst and snowblind, and garlands had the peel sessions. If the sleeves are new i hope its not in the generic 4ad style that they seem to have adopted, ie taking pictures of the old sleeves and making a collage out of them aka stars and topsoil.Having said that im looking forward to the remasters, imagine treasure all "cleaned up" mmmm....

Don't get me started....OK? Just don't get (twitches) me (dribbles from one corner of mouth) started.

I do believe that these "re-masters" (done in the name of philanthropy....just ask anyone at 4AD) have their original tracklistings and nothing else.

hi there!

we discussed the upcoming re-issues (feb 10th) at great length in a previous thread, you can read it by clicking on this link (http://www.herb-bauer.com/~leesa/cocteautwins/vBulletin/full/showthread.php?s=&threadid=773&highlight=mark)

i have to say i'm of the same general (if maybe slightly less jaded) opinion as phil. i can't see sleeping bag sales rocketing in the next 2 weeks either.

i can fully understand the attraction of these re-releases from a collecting p.o.v., and maybe for fans old and new who don't have them and will take the chance to grab them at a (hopefully) reduced price. though while i won't be one of them.. i'm still curious to see how they look, and sound :)

Who could blame you, Watchy? You're only human, therefore prone to bursts of affection for us lower orders.

ahh well, we would have released them all back in 2000, but its better to do a worldwide campaign where 4ad have the rights for the world, rather than letting some evil major label release it, then 4ad has to make it available again two years later when the rights revert back

didn't know you cared Phil :) oh no, hang on....

Rattle the bars of the wolf's cage for long enough and it'll bite.

Jo! How're things at the licensed money printing establishment, er, I mean 4AD?

Jan-23-03, 6:38 AM
ah, Phil, if you really want to know, you have my email - you remember? from the last time we talked about the reissues and you said you understood why they were coming out. sigh.

this is quite boring really :)

wolfs cage? funny boy :)

Phil Lawton
Jan-23-03, 6:53 AM
you said you understood why they were coming out. sigh.

Don't sigh, Jo - I read somewhere that sighing over a prolonged period of time can make your breasts sag.

I do believe that I said that I understood 4AD's motives for releasing them (cash cow + material + possibly cynical marketing technique x rabid fanbase = unexpected profits) , but didn't agree with them. I understand Saddam Hussein's motives for invading Kuwait, but didn't agree with them - are you with me?

I only started this back up again because 'Er Ladyship goaded me into it. I've resisted ranting pretty much since the last time.

A shining exercise of self-control in the face of adversity, I'm sure you'll agree.

If I read things correctly Mojo works in the 'business' correct?

And she sounds incredibly jaded.

Colour me surprised.

Mojo (or "Jo" to those she loves) works for 4AD.

Check out Mmmmmmmmmmmmender's thread "Mark Feb 17th in your Four Calendar Cafe!" in the archives of these boards for the whole story.

jo sounds jaded? what about phil?? :)

incidentally phil, i can understand your attitude over this whole re-release business, but i don't see the need to be nasty to jo about it. especially with that 'breasts' comment, which was well below the belt (no pun intended!).

just watch it phil or i'll have to report you to a moderator. and then you'd have.. er, me.. or er, you to deal with!

I wasn't being nasty to Jo - I have no idea what state her breasts are in and have no interest in finding out. Being the CT fan that I'm sure she is, she'll scan these pages on a regular basis and understand that I'm just a lovable, harmless kitten who likes to spray humour about.

"Jaded"? Uh-huh - well, if that's the opposite of "gullible", then I plead guilty.

Phil

P.S. The sighing/breast thing was an invention of mine...just thought I'd mention that in case there are any Californian women in.

just as long as you don't spray about what kittens are more usually associated with. well not on the community furniture anyway.

The original thread on this subject was a classic (!), read it in the archives the other day. Somehow I don't envision Phil inviting the 4AD squad 'round to his place for tea any time soon... unless he's lurking behind the door waiting to usher them in with a large cudgel when they arrive...

Phil Lawton

Matty

Actually, I've got nothing against 4AD as such - they've brought us some fine music over the years. What I object to (as you can probably tell) is their occasional foray into personally objectionable marketing ploys.

Lots of biscuits with that tea.

Jan-28-03, 10:05 AM
Understood. :)

I saw that you mentioned the singles box in the other thread, Phil. That's an item I've long coveted, but it sounds like it's just a collection of all of their previously released EP's with a couple of previously unavailable (outside of the odd comp.) tracks tacked on? I already have Tiny Dynamine and Echoes In A Shallow Bay, but thought the box might be a good way to lay my hands on some of the other harder-to-find EP's...

mmmender
Jan-28-03, 10:10 AM
matty - fyi the box set is still available....you can find the US re-issue SEALED for about $60.....less for an opened one. lemme know if you need a hand in finding one.

You can also lay your hands on the vast majority of the box's contents by ordering from the Bella Union shop, accessed through www.cocteautwins.com . Their prices are very reasonable and their service is great.

That Simon is a handsome fellow.

Phil & Lees, thanks a lot for the information.

I guess it's head-scratching time now... I'll have a gander at the discography and debate the relative merits of the box Vs. the individually packaged EP's... there was a sealed copy of the box down at the local record shop put some punter scarfed it up, damn them!:D

Why a Welshman... any one in particular?
Perhaps it's because all Welsh men have the same haircut.
Think about it: Tom Jones, Max Boyce, Shirley Bassey...

Yes, yes...and add Neil Kinnock and all of the Manic Street preachers to that list, but the follic-state of these celebrities has nothing to do with it.

I have difficulty in liking Welsh people. I'm continually spouting about my strong anti-racist views, but I then play myself offside with an almost pathological dislike of our coal-mining compatriots.

I don't know what it is...maybe it's because they're all short, humourless people who have only one mission in life, which is to be a Physical Education teacher (if they can't get into mining and/or a rugby team).

Maybe it's because they all think that when they lapse into Welsh when any non-Welsh person walks into their shop/pub, that person doesn't a) know that he/she is being denigrated or b) think that they're being pig-ignorant. "There's a welcome in the hillside"? Bollocks.

Maybe it's the actions of their more nationalistic brethren in burning the homes of non-Welsh residents. It's a touching tradition that doesn't quite translate too well on this side of the Clifton Bridge.

And I haven't even touched on the sheep shagging legend.

A Welsh acquaintance of mine (I wouldn't - couldn't - call him a friend) says that the best place to engage in ovine delight is on the edge of a cliff.

Apparently, it makes them push back harder.

And yesterday there was a sealed singles box at Virgin (I know, I'm a corporate-whore-mongering-record-shopper) and now it is mine, mine I tell you... with this singles box I will rule my Hi-Fi... (cue evil laughter) Mwa-ha-ha!!! 666

Sorry, went off the rails there for a bit...

OK, (deep breath) I'm back!!! :p

I don't think they fleeced me too badly... $65.99, seems to be comparable to the going rate. I'm not the ultimate savvy shopper anyway, I tend to prefer the "instant gratification" thang.

It now sits quite proudly alongside my Massive Attack singles box.
