Hello,
herefind a copy of an article of the french magazine "Les Inrockuptibles" about L2V; Excuse me, I let you traduce, my english it's too bad, I would denature the text. I hope the words are not too small. Duane

Yep, just a little too small for my translation/traduction skills.

OK, I'm not a professionnel of informatique and I do what I can....like for my english...
But may I find a solution, the article is in the very largest version on my old site at this adress : http://arnoduane.free.fr/ on the last link of the page 1, nammed "ARTICLE", you can click on this and the article appears (ok it's long a lot...) Indeed the article is in french, I hope someone traduce it, because I can make a traduction but I'm afraid to denaturate the sense of the words. Duane

Cocteau Twins,
les enfants terribles [trans. - “the terrible children”, title of drama by Jean Cocteau] The nebulous genius of Cocteau Twins revisited in a box set of singles. It’s a beautiful cream-coloured box, held in a transparent slipcase, with a texture totally smooth to the touch and [des colliers de bulles*] a blob [trans. - lit., jellyfish] that runs the length of four discs. A perfect manifestation of the suave elegance, of the enigmatic luxuriance and of the ephemeral materiality of Cocteau Twins, Lullabies to Violaine contains all of their singles from 1982 to 1996. It’s a fourteen-year career rich in albums (nine) and experiences (love, drugs, and other tribulations) that began in 1979 in Grangemouth, a Scottish port city dead with ennui. Robin Guthrie and Will Heggie were not even twenty years old when they decided to start Cocteau Twins (named after their favorite Simple Minds song). In the local discotheque–a post-punk place–Robin came across Elizabeth Fraser, who soon became the official voice of the group. Somewhere between thunderous and crystalline, with choral reverberations, their sinusoidal sound amourously blended sepulchral bass, distorted guitars, and the wobble of rhythms that constituted the New Wave aspect of the group. After Peppermint Pig, Heggie having left, the trio became two, then a trio again with the arrival of bassist Simon Raymonde on the mesmerizing The Spangle Maker (1984). The first CD here, which also contains the immense Aikea-Guinea (1985), is by far the most passionate of the four. With Raymonde, the Cocteau Twins atmospheric sound expanded exponentially. Aquatic. Their experiments–kind of jazz, kind of baroque–and a fair amount of drugs would make their structure more dense, if not abstract. Floating. More and more an oriental siren, Fraser enchants a serene decade running from Tiny Dynamine to Twinlights (85-95). The last CD closes the history with the electronica of Otherness and the classic rapturousness of the final album Milk & Kisses. One gets the impression of having opened an old photo album with dried roses pressed in the pages. Eléonore Colin *if a native speaker could help out with colliers de bulles, that would be great.

Excellent review.
I'm not a native speaker but des colliers de bulles un peu méduse translates as "necklaces (or strings) of jellyfish-like bubbles" or something to that effect. Last edited by Ghosty; Dec-24-05 at 10:20 AM. |
