I think the album is fine but the idea of the album was a lot better. Budd is a really interesting musician. If only they had just collaborated instead of the two 'halves' we got. 4 songs are CT's with Budd, 4 are Budd with CT's. The song I favour - Sea Swallow Me which I first heard at Portsmouth Guildhall. Lovely track. I had no idea there was a blue cover but it sounds nothing like Victorialand for my money.

There's always 'Lovely Thunder' for anyone who did pine for more of the same.

And I wish that Dif Juz still existed.

When it came out; I was at university.
[*]Was it before or after you heard a Cocteau Twins song?
After - it was the eagerly anticipated new CT album
[*]How often do you listen to the album?
In my head, all the time; when I was writing my final year essays it was on permanent rotation, to the exclusion of everything else for 14 hours. I only took breaks every 20 minutes to flip the record over.
[*]What's your favourite track on the album?
She Will Destroy You
[*]Do you own it on vinyl, CD or cassette?
Vinyl first, then CD
[*]Wish Richard Thomas did more sax contributions with CT?
Wishing ain't my business
[*]What's your favourite song title from TMATM?
Memory Gongs
[*]Which cover colour do you prefer, cream or blue?[*]Would you recommend TMATM to a Cocteau newbie?
Yes
[*]Would you have liked more Budd/Cocteau collaborations?
No, this was perfect thanks.

"Wish Richard Thomas did more sax contributions with CT?"

Yeah, I always wished the Cocteaus would have employed the sax in more songs.

  1. When did you first discover "The Moon & The Melodies"? Around the same time I discovered The Pink Opaque, in 1988. I bought them both on cassette at my local record store, as they were the only CT releases they had. In fact, now that I think about it, those were the first two CT albums (on cassette) I bought.
  2. Was it before or after you heard a Cocteau Twins song? After. I'd heard Pearly Dewdrops' Drops and Love's Easy Tears.
  3. How often do you listen to the album? I had it in my car cd player a few months ago, mostly due to some discussion about it on this forum. It had been a long while since I'd listened to it, though. I was reminded of how good it is.
  4. What's your favourite track on the album? Hard for me to pick. I ended my 5 year radio show with Ooze Out & Away, Onehow because it seemed like such a wonderful song of closure for my show. But I think I'd probably pick Sea, Swallow Me, as that's the song that gets me with it's haunting beauty every time.
  5. Do you own it on vinyl, CD or cassette? All 3
  6. Wish Richard Thomas did more sax contributions with CT? Yes!!!
  7. What's your favourite song title from TMATM? Ooze Out & Away, Onehow
  8. Which cover colour do you prefer, cream or blue? cream
  9. Would you recommend TMATM to a Cocteau newbie? Maybe not to a newbie. The album is beautiful and has some of my favorite CT work, but if they're not into instrumental music, I'm afraid they might lose interest in it.
  10. Would you have liked more Budd/Cocteau collaborations? Definitely!

When did you first discover "The Moon & The Melodies"?: Probably in NME telling this collaboration was on its way; bought on release date
Was it before or after you heard a Cocteau Twins song? After
How often do you listen to the album? Rarely
What's your favourite track on the album? Don't have a favourite - even back in the 80s it never grabbed me - its my least favourite album
Do you own it on vinyl, CD or cassette? Vinyl initially and now also CD
Wish Richard Thomas did more sax contributions with CT? Moreso I wish there had been more sax contributions full stop. Loved the sax on Five Ten Fiftyfold earlier on but not sure how well it would have worked on later songs.
What's your favourite song title from TMATM? Ooze Out And Away One How
Which cover colour do you prefer, cream or blue? Didn't realise there were different coloured sleeves...no preference
Would you recommend TMATM to a Cocteau newbie? Yes, but only after they had bought and listened to every other album first. I don't actually consider it to be a proper CT album
Would you have liked more Budd/Cocteau collaborations? No

When did you first discover "The Moon & The Melodies"?
About a week after it was released

Was it before or after you heard a Cocteau Twins song?
After

How often do you listen to the album?
Fairly regularly, I love listening to it through headphones at night..

What's your favourite track on the album?
Sea, Swallow Me - but I do love Ooze out and Away, Onehow..

Do you own it on vinyl, CD or cassette?
All 3, I got the cassette first as I was at college and only had a tape player at the time, then I got the vinyl soon after even thpugh I couldn't play it at the time... only got the cd about 3 years ago..

Wish Richard Thomas did more sax contributions with CT?
Not all that bothered to be honest..

What's your favourite song title from TMATM?
Bloody and Blunt

Which cover colour do you prefer, cream or blue?
Don't care

Would you recommend TMATM to a Cocteau newbie?
Wouldn't be my first recommendation, but I guess it would depend a lot on the person.. some people I know would far prefer this to say, Garlands so..?

Would you have liked more Budd/Cocteau collaborations?
Yes, could prove interesting and wonderful

When did you first discover "The Moon & The Melodies"?
On the day of release. Bought it from the Left-Legged Pineapple in Loughborough.
Was it before or after you heard a Cocteau Twins song?
After - in fact, I seem to remember that they played Sea, Swallow Me at a show in Nottingham before the release of the album.
How often do you listen to the album?
When I'm in the mood for that period of the Cocteau Twins' music - I tend to just play the vocal tracks, though.
What's your favourite track on the album?
Sea, Swallow Me and Ooze Out and Away, Onehow.
Do you own it on vinyl, CD or cassette?
Replaced my original vinyl with a CD some years ago.
Wish Richard Thomas did more sax contributions with CT?
Sax, no. Drums, definitely. He should have joined as their drummer, which would have made them a much better live band. His work with Butterfly Child (particularly on their second Peel session) gives an idea of how this might have sounded.
What's your favourite song title from TMATM?
I'm intrigued by all of them - is it just Bloody and Blunt and Ooze Out and Away, Onehow that are sourced from Cocteau Twins lyrics, or the whole lot?
Which cover colour do you prefer, cream or blue?
Cream - my original LP sleeve was that colour.
Would you recommend TMATM to a Cocteau newbie?
Yes, but I'd tell them to get Lullabies to Violaine and a few albums first.
Would you have liked more Budd/Cocteau collaborations?
I'm with Brett on this one - only if it had been a genuine collaboration, rather than a fifty-fifty split, as TM&TM appeared to be. And even so, I'd far rather have had another complete Cocteau Twins album!
