Post Guthrie, Budd: Mysterious Skin

As previously mentioned on this forum.....

A new film by director Greg Araki called "Mysterious Skin" has a soundtrack by Robin Guthrie and Harold Budd.

According to Robin there are at least 8 of his solo pieces, 3 collaborative pieces with Budd, and 5 or 6 solo Budd pieces in the film. To date the soundtrack has not been picked up for release by anyone so if you want to hear this stuff you need to check out the film!

"Mysterious Skin" is based on the 1995 novel by Scott Heim (http://www.scottheim.com). Scott is a huge Cocteau Twins fan, he even attended CocteauFest in Boston last year. Scott is also a member of this forum. In his second novel, In Awe, Scott acknowledged the band in his dedications:

"...For constant inspiration, Elizabeth Fraser, Robin Guthrie, and Simon Raymonde."

The movie, which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Brady Corbet, Michelle Trachtenberg, Elizabeth Shue and Mary-Lynn Rajskub, is due in theatres later this year. Luckily it's playing at the Toronto Film Festival this coming Monday, September 13, 2004 so I'll be attending and will give a full review afterwards.

Here's the Toronto Film Festival link:

Not only does the films soundtrack feature Guthrie and Budd but you can also hear Cocteau Twins "Crushed" during one scene, as well as tracks by both Sigur Ros and Slowdive.
