Default Cocteau Twins Guitar Tabs - OFFICIAL TATE TABS INCLUDED

Does anyone have/collect CT guitar tabs? A few are floating out in cyberspace, but no one has really stepped up to the plate.

Any members interested in putting together a CT Guitar Tab Lab (CTGTL)?

Our moderator's proposed "definitive collector's list" has inspired me to create a tab counterpart for the guitarists out there

Best,

Andy

it'd actually be nice to have something printed and bound -- but that's assuming that the tabs are as accurate as possible.

As for offering a helping hand, much thanks.

Might you have any friends of friends of friends who may have been involved with CT in a guitar tech and/or recording capacity?Shedding some light on how Guthrie achieved specific sounds/textures/efx, etc. (in addition to the tabs) would be extra special and worthy of publication!

Best,

Andy

Almost missed this thread in the midst of mmmender's server woes, sorry mmmender, I know how frustrating that can be...
---
anyhow, I'd love to see what you are describing as well Andy.
...I've worked on a few tabs, I attempted to list some effects but only as a vague guesses, so you'd likely disregard them...only a few points I mention the delay time to get pulsing with the beats in that tempo..., I didn't think any of my suggestions sounded like the original...if you'd like to see them they can be downloaded from my tab collection which is presently just a handful of tunes...I tried to work out song structure in some cases...rather incomplete and/or interpretive thus not something I am presenting to anyone as well you know., the songs are:
  • Whales Tales(part)
  • Oomingmak
  • The Itchy Glowbo Blow(part)
  • I wear your Ring
  • Wolf in the Breast
  • Road River and Rail(part)
  • Seekers who are Lovers(with bass)

I did these last year when I was newer to CT on the whole and still a bit naive about the effects, but I knew then I was unsure just exactly HOW to get that sound

If you can't hit that, just send me a Private message and I can email em...corrections needed and welcome.
PS -
Oh yeah, another thought about publishing something detailing RG's guitar fx techniques seems unlikely as he seems somewhat private about it and more importantly is more about experimenting than analytical methods..if that is possible..I just suspect he has less of a preconceived method and more of a style he's developed by ear...so for publication, it seems either inaccessible or not likely to be made public....I hope I'm wrong

I was rather obsessed with playing Pink Orange Red not too long ago on the piano but I haven't written anything down if that's what you mean (it's not too faithful anyway).

Other songs I've tried to play on the piano with varying degrees of success: From the Flagstones, Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops, Ivo, Carolyn's Fingers, Heaven or Las Vegas, Half-Gifts, Calfskin Smack, Alice.

Are you a fellow pianist? Hmm, I do actually have an ancient program that I can use to write sheet music. I can work on Pink Orange Red for now. It's the only one that sounds good to me so far.

The things I'll do for anyone who knows the Cocteau Twins exist!

Glad you chose to resurrect this thread, I'd like to see some transcriptions too; I'm working with a band presently that I think could definitely handle some CT material.
It's a band in Alabama (of all places) that has a nice studio and all of the members are quite technically proficient with the technologies involved. I've never worked with a group of musicians better suited for tackling my favorite band. I'm really hoping we can add some CT to our repertoire soon.

I'm in the process of doing my Cocteau proselytizing, still have to find the song that will make believers out of them...
I would think we could transcribe whatever tunes we work up, hope to have more to add here soon.

So, are there many more musicians lurking around here?
I've been listening to Musette's 'Cold Heaven' tracks this morning, they are quite nice.

Should I start a thread to see who has musical projects going?
I'd love to see some input from anyone who's been covering CT material.

I have guitars and I play them. I have even played in some bands. Lately I've been playing on my computer with Reason. But I certainly would not consider myself a musician. Though I know there are others on the board that are. That all being said I too would be interested in any transcriptions of songs for guitar and/or piano. Personally the guitars have always been my favorite component of the Twins.

Cheers,

-PhillipT

Excellent idea! I think we could share our drafts in this forum, to be corrected each other. Certaily there is a lack of good CT tabs. It would be a dream if Simon or Robin could correct!

In fact I've got a doubt with Pink Orange Red. According Jason Baxter, in the chorus there are next chords:

e - 4 - 4 - 3 -
B - 4 - 4 - 4 -
G - 5 - 5 - 5 -
D - 6 - 6 - 5 -
A - 6 - 6 - 3 -
E - 4 - 6 - x -

That's when Liz sings:
"Mel - iteae phoe - bus hyala phoe - bus hyala clo - eyessa"

and lately:

"Hymeae sat - umia - hymeae noss - inussa"

(BTW, what a beautiful, sublime text, and song!). Well, it sounds accurate, except second chord, that is also impossible to play with a five-finger left hand! Some suggestion/opinion?

ScottL, I couldn't connect to: http://24.31.224.53:8888/tab

Mmmender, you can transcribe whatever you want with a program to write music, like NoteWorthy, Melody Assistant or something similar, if you use Windows. There are loads of midis in the net, from where you can get the respective scores.

Thank you Scott!
I'll try your tabs.
What do you think about that chord in Pink Orange Red chorus?
